please, boys. if you run multiple businesses you are going to spend most of your waking hours dealing with all the headaches that come with them.
the idea that owning your own business is simple and easy is what blue collar idiots think. nothing in life comes easy that is worth it. everyone who runs businesses that work love what they do.
Owning a business and running a business are entirely different things. Entirely. Owning a business that you physically work at is insane. I would never do it.
Is there no one here who understands the difference between working for your money and having your money work for you? Is it seriously that difficult of a concept? What the hell are they teaching you kids? Sparkster, do you actually think it takes less time to go to work for 40-50 hours -- hell, 60+ including traffic -- than it does to go to the bank and cash checks, and walk into a shop and shake hands every day? Whoever put the idea in your head that owning a company means running a company has no freaking idea what money is for.
Money is a tool with a very specific but misunderstood purpose, sort of like a gun. Money's purpose is to make more money. That's all it does. When you spend money, you're making money for someone else. When you invest money, you're making money for yourself. It's that simple.
I do not RUN my businesses. I invested in them. I worked my hands into 40-grit sandpaper and lived in a basement apartment driving beater cars and eating Hamburger Helper and Happy Hour specials for ten years, and investing all the money I made at my day jobs -- and my night jobs -- into increasingly larger ventures. I now have a capital management firm with one employee: me. My firm collects a percentage of the profits every month, a few hundred, maybe a thousand bucks a whack, from half a dozen businesses that I've invested in; businesses that I do not -- repeat, DO NOT -- run. This earns me about $50-60K a year and my headaches are minimal, I assure you. My biggest headaches typically come when I have a manager -- who DOES run a business -- who is not making profits consistently. Then I have to go figure out why, and occasionally replace him or her.
Don't tell me what my life is and isn't. My life rocks. I earned it.
