Its an awful tragic loss to the world.

This guy was the greatest standup comedian of all time.

I was fortunate enough to see him live at Kewadin Casino a long time ago.

RIP George, you were awesome man.

Anyone else think that he wasn't funny at all? Maybe I've just been watching the wrong videos.
Some people don't get his sense of humor. It is mostly geared towards working class and older people. If you are in your early 20's or younger chances are that you wouldn't find him that funny, but don't you dare to name some phoney comedian like Dane Cook as the best comedian alive.

George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks and David Cross are what is known as "smart comedy".

The opposite of smart comedy is Larry the Cable Guy, Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia.

You'd probably enjoy the second batch of comedians I listed SJC.

He was funny, but alot of his stuff was just to politically driven for my tastes.

Kinda like Bill Maher.

He was at his funniest in the late 70s - eary 80s when he was less politically "ranty" and just did funny stuff.

True Story:

Back around 1970, my mom was out on a dinner/comedy date in the NY area. Carlin was the featured comedian, and among a whole dining room full of people, she was the only one laughing at his jokes.
Before leaving the stage, he looked in her direction and quipped, "I'd like to thank my audient" and exited the venue.

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What’s that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you’re too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating …and you finish off as an orgasm.

Thanks for posting that, Red Spicy...

That was poignant and funny at the same time.

He was one of my favorites, I was out of the country and had no idea he died until I got back home last night. Too bad. At least he got to live a relatively long life though, compared to Bill Hicks. :(
