Fedor: Q. How should I do chin ups? A. Very fast, to train your speed and power.

Clearly an anomaly when it comes to chins...I don't understand how performing chins fast leads to increased speed and power...makes no sense to me. I have always read it's best to perform exercises slowly...and I agree that slower is better in order to maintain peffect form and fully contract the muscles

Maybe thats for pure strength. In MMA, speed and power are more important.

How about you just do them at a comfortable pace? Easy down, and on the contaction, just pull your ass up and squeeze. Sort of like you would when doing a squat. Ease yourself down, and bust your ass to get back up.

Why wouldn't using your muscles quickly increase your muscle's ability to do more work in less time (power)? Do you learn to tie your shoe laces by putting on your pants?

Mark Rippetoe's strength book repeatedly recommends doing movements explosively on the positive. The negative is the part done more controlled and slowly.

The key to back exercise is SQUEEZING and HOLDING. Otherwise, you'll end up working your arms.

As long as you go through the full range of motion and correct techniqe, why would you only workout your arms unless you squezze and hold?

When doing pull ups, stick your chest up and squeese your muscils near your sholder blades(I think there called lats) together. try lifting your self with your lats. I just founout I was always doing them wrong. Doing this fast is good.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. I can do 6 pull ups with 60 extra pounds on weight on me and I don't squeeze, so I must be doing something right.

I think squeezing and holding just contributes to the pump and d.o.m.s
