Gymnastics. He's transitioning from a planche to a handstand. It takes great upper body strength to do stuff like that. Try reading http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/229/ for an introduction to planche work, and do those handstands against a wall until you can do them freestyle. It's gonna take a long time for you to accomplish one of those pushups unless you already do gymnastics.
