My apartment is hideous!

Not in the messy teenager way, but in the "still haven't unpacked" after months of living here way. There is an article on the main site with tips on how to make your place comfortable for a woman... but that article is old. I want to know what some of the men do here with their pads to make it easy to overcome that last minute resistance women inevitably put up when you bring them back to your place.

My plan is to take care of a room each day. Today I'm working on my bathroom. New towels, lights, flowers. I've got some ideas, but more are always appreciated.

I've been working on my apartment for the last year or so. I can only tell you a few things that should help along they way.

1. Keep your bathroom spotless. Its ok to have a messy bedroom, this gives the impression your busy and don't have time to make your bed. Having a messy bathroom just means your a slob. Keep your toilet clean and sink clean from toothpaste and beard shavings. Have a candle, tissues, hand-soap and plenty of towels in various sizes available.

2. Plants. Plants show you can take care of something, albeit not an animal or a child, still it goes a little way that your responsible and caring enough to keep your plants alive and looking good. With plants you should either have one really nice one, or plenty of cheap little ones. This all depends on your sunlight situation.

3. Art or Photography. The days of tacking up movie and band posters with push pins in the wall are over. Its fine for the dorm room but not for a bachelor pad. Get some nice prints of art or photography. Let it be something you like, don't go buying art prints that don't reflect your personality. It can be comic oriented or graffiti style, as long as its presented as art in a nice frame. This displays some sophistication and appreciation of culture, without being a snob.

4. Let your place look lived in. If you clean like a madman before you go out or expecting a female over, she's going to walk in and smell cleaning products and see everything in its place. This shows your working to hard or hiding something. Its ok to have some cloths hanging over your weight bench in your bedroom. its natural to have some magazines or newspaper next to your chair, maybe a couple dishes in the sink. Point is, look like you live there and naturally keep a nice place, it displays that you stay clean and organized in your day to day activities, not scrambling to clean your pit before you bring someone over.

Takes time to build a nice pad. I have telescopes, bookcases, globes, and spot lighting in my apartment now. my gym is tucked away nicely but still within eye sight. Since my studio is also in my apartment girls like to check it out and pose in front of my cameras and ask to splash paint on canvas...turns into a fun action date that not many others can offer....

what is it that you can offer within your kingdom thats unique? =)

Happy trails bro!

Clean is important.

what helped out greatly, is setting a schedule. I wake up 20 mins early every day, and clean one thing. Be it washing dishes, cleaning 1 toilet, sweeping the patio or just pruning plants - It then doesn't become the mad dash it used to be, since I'm constantly working on it.

Gunslinger said something great: your home is your castle. Your palace.

Decorate it as you are, not so as to have a woman fall for it. Of course, if you're quite the unimaginative slob, you'd best work on improving your personal morals, values and and personality. Unless you want to attract another slob. :D

Jesting aside, make it to represent who you are and what you care about. Plants aren't necessary if you feel nothing for them. But it does make things more homey and human; man was raised in nature after all. Our unconscious is drawn to such things.

Keep it clean. Keep it diverse. Let every corner and wall, every room, be a monument to something of your mind. Things you believe in. Things you admire. Things you life for. Things you've created. Things you find beautiful. Things that inspire you. Things that lift your mind and spirit into something better than the dirty and unimaginative every-day streets and offices that we dwell in. Make your home an oasis, a retreat. A secret cache of beauty, knowledge and happiness. But most of all: keep it clean (but not spotless, that's inhuman).

For practical tips, indeed see the other posts and not my incessant, impractical hippy-ranting. And you have some great ideas yourself, let's not forget that. :p

EDIT: oh wait, people already referredto and said what I said... Damn, I have to stop being so redundant. :kick:

One of the best things I did was higher a maid to clean twice a month. I know most people can't afford that but I just had to budget to fit it in. I pay 100 bucks a month for it and my house is spotless. The bathrooms are clean and the carpet is clean and everything gets dusted and put up. Also I have a nice backyard with plants and bushes. It has nice lighting at night and some nice backyard furniture.

Since I fixed up the house and turned it into a nice place people come over all the time. It is funny how that works. Chicks even do the dishes after we eat because they don't want to mess up the place or they are just impressing me but either way it's because of the house.

I have framed picutres of stuff like looney toons, comics, and sports but everyone thinks it's cool. I don't have any plants inside the house though. My beds never made but the bedroom is clean except for a shirt or shorts that's just laying there.

It's funny reading the link on what you should have in your place because I have all but one that it mentioned. I always thought that you shold be comfortable living in your house so I make it like that.

Art. REAL art....not Target prints.

I have a couple of original eastern European oil paintings from Prague, I have an ink and watercolor from Amsterdam, an antique print from Ebay, and two antique oils, one from Ebay the other from an antique store. I probably have a total of $600 but it's worth more than that, it keeps appreciating, and it makes GREAT conversation pieces.

Oh yea, and I have a couple of cool spanish reales from the 17th-18th century that are framed, and some ancient Roman artifacts that I keep in my cabinet that are pretty cool.

The only other thing that is a MUST if you are inviting women to your place is a soft, warm, comfy blanket or throw for the sofa.

Just moved into a new place that I am doing some work to. As soon as I am able to get the paint done I will try to post pics to show you what a panty dropping pad looks like.

Don't laugh, but next time you're watching porn vids check out how some of these places are decked out (furniture, paintings, etc).

They set those places up like that for a reason - they want the woman to come in and feel comfortable and sensual. Women may laugh at first and think the neon blue bedsheets and the zebra stripe comforter is tacky, but next thing you know they've got their pants off.

If money is at issue, start with the bed ($$$$$ on sheets goes a long way) and move ******d.

Arggh, my big post was munched b/c the forum logs me out after ten minutes or something. Anybody else have this problem?

Anyway, about the plants, if you do them hydroponically they will look great and last much longer between waterings. I've got a friend with a beautiful pad in manhattan, but he's got this pathetic circle of dying plants by the window.

Also, don't let women leave their shlt there. Nothing like her finding some other girl's maxipads under the sink to put her out of the mood. For the same reason, change your sheets in advance, so there are no telltale hairs. Women can smell another woman from a hundred miles and seduction is not the stage for jealousy in my experience.

Finally, secure your environment. I got snooped on and it sucked. Encrypt your drives, use a fingerprint reader so your passwords are never stored in web mail logins or typed in her view, create a guest acc't on your pc for her use, lock your file cabinet and put the key in a combo keysafe, and put a password on your phone. The last thing you want is a jealous biatch who starts emailing other women in your address book, phone or email. This happened to me and was a huge headache.

I Believe your place should me a real "man's cave". All your hobbies and collections (eg model cars) should be proudly displayed. My guitar's and amps are where I want them so I can play whenever time I want.

I also believe in real art - some original oil paintings are good. I have a rustic african painting and my sister is busy with one of the Drakensberg. I also have pencil portraits of my kids done by an artist friend.

Above all, It must be clean. I also have a maid who keeps it spotless for me - these Zulu women really look after a single guy, they pride themselves on a clean house - not like the spoilt white b*****s.

There is a room for my daughter when she visits and that is her's. Very important though. Do not let any feminine stuff lie around. If your last girl "forgot" to take her bra - don't leave it lying on your bed.

A masculine pad is a big turn on. They will immediately want to change it or move your stuff around - don't let them, remember, they there by invitation only.

In my apartment I did a beach theme in my bathroom. I painted it a sand color, and the border is palm trees and surfboards with a beach back ground. I then went to walmart and got small mat/rugs to match the walls, I also got this cool looking nautical cargo net that I put on the wall; I then placed star fish and shells all over it. I found a bunch of nice decorations at a dollar store, I got dolphins, crabs and fish for the wall, there like made of plastic but look cool. I found this long wicker box at Ikea that I filled with sand and shells and put it on top of my tolit. The Icing on the cake is the life preserver I found that says “all aboard” I put that on the wall over toilet :) I found a nice air freshener that you mount to the wall, it sprays like every 30 mins on its own. Also along the way picked up some nice tooth brush holders and stuff like that to match the bathroom. I also got a nice beach shower Curtin. Women LOVE my bathroom when they come over.

My Living room, I got a lot of copies of priceless works of art, I got a hand of god with a real nice frame that matches my living room, I also have a few Van Gogh paintings all nicely framed. Women like plants, I got a bunch including a min palm tree, also brings life to the room. I try to keep my bathroom, living room extremely clean also the kitchen. The bedroom is more forgiving as long as you keep the sheets clean!

I have too many projects going on at the moment so I haven't been able to get the paint on the walls.

I need to get off my ass and get it done cause one of my photographer friends and a model i recently worked with want to do a lingerie shoot in my bedroom.

Oh, and the reason I popped back into this thread in the first place was to suggest something.

This is kind of off topic, but have a video camera (or an SLR still camera) conspicuously placed in the living area when you have a chick over. Don't make it look too obvious, maybe have it on a tripod facing the corner next to an open gear bag.

If she says something about it, fire it up and make her work it! If she doesn't mention it, casually grab it and start to fiddle with it. Start getting shots of her. She will probably put her hand up and say "No, NO!", but get her comfortable with it and you will be surprised how much "amateur porn" you'll end up with after a few years

My pad is okay; I have a condo in downtown Seattle. It has a partial view, it's close to clubs, it's on the 17th floor. It's upscale rustic European -- buttercream walls, comfy overstuffed furniture, hardwoods, rugs.

But my real prop is my boat: a 1971 Laurent Giles 40' ketch. I got her for nothing - all I had to do was pay the monthly rent on a slip - after a galley fire, and renovated the interior myself. I keep her moored just north of here, about a 15 minute drive from downtown. It's just about the ultimate babe lair. Sunset, a glass of wine, some Miles Davis on the stereo.... yeah, it's old school pimpin' but it freakin' works.

Speaking of which, I've gotta go.

I got me a new bed. I called around for a maid to come clean my pad and none of them answer their phones? HARD to get in touch with maids these days. The one I got in touch with has been in business 30 years and wanted $120 to clean my 800 sq ft apartment. She didn't even really want my business.

Anyway, I bought some cinnamon-apple stuff with leaves and sh1t in it to make my place smell cozier. I shopped around downtown for some pictures or paintings to mount on the walls. Found a $2000 painting of horses in the sun, but held off on buying it. It really suits me and I would love to own it. It's a Huge painting.

This decorating my pad is hard work, because I don't buy sh1t, ever, and you don't want to buy the wrong thing. I'm kind of a miser with my money, hence the 800 sq ft apartment in the slums. I don't even own a dishwasher or washer n' dryer. I've had blankets and pillow cases stolen from me at the laundry mat.

My place is safe though, like 1 homicide every 2-3 years in this entire city. People behave here. Theft is another issue though.

Sure I could go out right now and get a mortgage and be a slave to gargantuan house notes, but I'm too comfortable and secure where I'm at. If I got married, I'd still live here at least another 1.5 years or so until I could make a substantial down pmt on a house.

So this is where I'm at. I'm in the process of "decorating" my pad to make it as attractive as ME (I'm very attractive; women think I'm rich; If they only knew the sh1thole I lived in, then they wouldn't want no part of me).

I'm not allowed to alter the apartment under the terms of the lease so there's only so much I can do to spruce it up. I guess that I can change the light fixtures but that's about it. The uglyass linoleum kitchen and bathroom floors are peeling, but What can I DO about that? I'm not allowed to fix it. So if a woman asks, I'll just tell her, "They won't allow me to fix this." One of my bathroom sinks is leaking and I haven't used it in months as a result.

I would love to take out the ugly sliding closet doors and all the other doors and put in doors of my preference but they won't let me upgrade it.

I would love to paint the walls an off-gray and change the cheap blinds to curtains, but they won't let me do it.

No where else can you get a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath for the paltry rent I pay.

This weekend, my list of things to buy are the following:

1) Expensive shower curtain
2) Linens for new bed
3) An unusual stalactite nature lamp for the bedroom
4) More aroma scented sh1t
5) not ready for plants yet- will consider getting 1 or 2 in a month or so
6) Throw away some more sh1t I don't need
7) Something to put my TV on
8) And much more sh1t I can't think of right now

Ebay.

I picked up a turn of the century original European oil for about $160 including shipping. It's a landscape scene, kind of dark and mysterious looking. My guy friends like it, and women do too, even though it's a very masculine painting.

One of my smaller eastern European paintings I got in Prague, I think I paid $40 for it, but if it were purchased in a gallery in the states it would probably be a $600 painting. It's that good.

Shop around for deals on art. If you go to most galleries in the US you're gonna pay outrageous prices for what I consider to be crap. If you do manage to find high grade American art, you're gonna pay out the ass for it unless you find it on Ebay.

I decorate my house in a very classical manner that will never go out of style. Wooden furniture, oil paintings of landscapes and shorelines with the obligatory lighthouse (to get Freud on my side, heheh), a nice chess board, a bad ass liquour cabinet, and of course my piano.

This arrangement seems to intimidate the younger and dumb ones but cougars really appreciate the simple elegance. And all of them, regardless of age, absolutely love my king size bed with the big wooden backboard.

I know it may seem antiquated and boring to most, but it seems to work wonders for me. Besides, I'm pretty sure I won't have to change most of my furniture for many years!
