Retirement pensions and medical benefits on our tax dollars? Could it be?

The USPS is an antiquated fvcking welfare entitlement entity that needs to be abolished and privatized. The private sector would be much more efficient at providing these services, primarily due to competition.

Those who provide the best service at the best price to the consumer will survive and then we all will win with lower costs.

Speaking of those, the delivering of Social Security checks is the most commonly cited reason to keep the postal service going.

There are plenty of private shipping companies who compete with the postal service. But UPS or Fedex ground is about $12, compared to 45 cents to mail a letter with the USPS. When letters cost $12 to mail, hopefully at least we'll see the end of junk mail.

OK. Hear ya.

How bout big brother passes a law that all social security checks are delivered via direct deposit?

Sorry Bible. I just got pissed off today after getting my tax bill and reviewing it this AM.

1) 4 fvcking school bonds (I never had kids).
2) County
3) Indigent Welfare Services
4) Fire Dept
5) Highway District
6) 2 City Bonds
7) Community College
8) Emergency Medical
9) Flood District
10) Sewer
11) Cemetary
12) Mosquito fvcking abatement! WTF!

Total 2143.26

I know I'm ranting but sh!t! These fvckers would take every fvcking dime I had if given the chance. Then I read that stuff about the postal service.

Businesses can fail. And just because a "business" is a governmental entity should be no exception. Just my thoughts.

Not so fast. 95% of the USPS losses stem from the fact that Congress is obliging them to pay for 75 years worth of retirement health benefits over a ten-year period.

Manufactured crisis. A few minor reforms and the USPS would be in profit.

To be fair, UPS and FedEx has never had "letters" be their bread and butter. They handle packages more than anythign else. But I'm sure if they did, they would be better at it than the USPS.
Exactly right!!!!!!

The government will do anything to get into your wallet and redistribute your wealth, whether it be by a postage stamp, "mosquito abatement" or taxes!

First it was...."let's tax those who make more than 1 mil because they don't pay their fair share (socialism)." Now it's "let's tax households who make more than 250K per year." When will it stop? Never! These a$$holes will stop at nothing to get your hard earned money.

u don't realize the half of it. EVERYTHING that you buy costs 2-3x as much as it would if all the producers, shippers, wholesalers and retailers didn't have to pay taxes. they can KEEP their bs 'services" if they'd let me keep all my money, and do everyone else likewise. the 20k a year I'd save would retire me in 4 years. it would retire me in the 3rd world in TWO years, actually.

we pay one TRILLION $ a year for a military that LETS a million illegals into this country, EVERY year, and for the "intelligence" community that not only didn't know about 9x11, they couldn'ty even see that Russia was falling apart! so wtf good are they, hmm? I can defend the US with nothing but the nuke missle subs, the Spec Ops forces and the National guard. NOBODY is going to **** with a country that can send in (indiginous looking) assassins, who can plant backpack nukes!

Anyone who's ever done mail knows that

(1) almost all mail is bulk, junk mail that is basically subsidized by higher costs on first class. Also, anything marked "standard" is junk. Neither bulk nor standard can be forwarded or have address correction service for the sender. Hardly any mail anymore is personal letters. It's all bills, and

(2) the majority of FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc., is letters. The industry calls it "vanity mail," although some of it is legal documents that must be hard copies with actual signatures. Big corporations negotiate and get a huge discount on their per-letter rate -- which means that their interoffice memos are subsidized by everyone else, and

(3) as soon as private companies were allowed to take away the lucrative package business, the post office lost most of its revenue and had to invent the junk mail class just to stay afloat. If private mail carriers were outlawed, and all mail went at a dime a half-ounce, junk mail would disappear immediately. However, due to the Internet, I don't think that mail will ever go back to being delivered twice a day. It's a dinosaur waiting to die.

Not to mention that, "The Postman," with Kevin Costner was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen. Cheezus.
