I had posted the following in another thread, but thought it might be a good addition to the tips section for those who may not wander into the mature man's forum often:
A lot of people struggle to define the term alpha because they are trying to assign grandiose benchmarks to it. It becomes rhetorical in this way.
Money, status, education, confidence... the list goes on and on, but none of these things really makes a man a man. It is the journey itself in acquiring all things which do not come easy in life that eventually makes the man a true man.
I can hand a man a million dollars in cash, but he will be no more financially savvy for it. Savvy is the self made millionaire who can lose every penny of his fortune and can find a way to earn it back.
I can tell a man every day that he is a good person and should believe in himself, but his confidence will still be weak. Yet a man who struggles against adversity, triumphs and becomes proud of it will no longer need any outside encouragement. He will know his strength and his worth deep in his soul better than anyone could ever possibly comprehend.
I can hand an idiot a degree from Harvard, but he's still going to be an idiot. The smart man is one who is curious and hungry to learn a little something new every single day.
I can put a man on a magazine cover or in a movie but he will be forgotten very quickly. Because he has done nothing to earn the status, he will also know nothing about keeping it.
Its not about how much money you have, it's about how you earned it.
Its not about how many friends you have, its about how you got them.
Ad nauseum....
