The gym I train in varies depending the program I run. The home gym is so no one can take my ability to train from me again (like they did for 2 years during covid).
My home gym doesn't have the specific equipment I need for my current program, but sometimes I have to wait for equipment to be available. Gotta make concessions where it's needed (for progress).
I have a home gym that came in handy during covid and increasingly is my default for convenience
i do want to start up again at the university gym because i want to work on my swimming and the dry sauna is supposed to have alot of health benefits

Recently joined the home gym side. It’s been great so far, except that it’s not well isolated and will get darn cold in the winter. So I’ll have to dress warm and watch out for injuries.
Garage gym all the way. Zero excuses for making it to the gym. I don't have to wait on equipment while people peacock around or scroll on their phones. No bitching when I get chalk on the floor. I can incorporate my sandbags and kegs. My German Shepard can hang out. Great music without headphones. It's scorching in the summer and freezing in the winter. Nothing like heavy squats wearing thermals, stocking cap, and gloves while the cold air burns the lungs. Seems more Spartan like in a Rocky 4 training for Drago kind of way. Getting wood just typing about it.
As someone who is going to gym for years, I rather prefer a homegym and also have it in my to do list to build one together with my gf in our home. Its overall more beneficial for us
I workout at home. Haven't been to the gym since COVID.
Have a Bowflex machine that I have upped to 670 lbs of resistance with tension enhancers that add another 200+ lbs via 3rd party modifications.
Obviously it's not a 1:1 ratio with actual weight but it's plenty good for what I need it for. More weight than 90% of people could ever lift or ever will lift.
Also have Torroband heavy resistance bands that have 440 lbs of resistance.
Sandbag that holds up to 200 lbs.
Weighted Sled that I push/pull a few days a week when weather allows typically mid April-mid October.
Elliptical and walking pad that I use while working.
2 weighted vests, one 60 lbs, one 30 lbs.
My joints have never been happier since I gave up free weights.
2010 i started building my home gym. 2013 I got to the point where i could hit every body part at home and stopped going to gyms. 2023 it is my own oasis... cardio equipment, kettlebells, sauna, multiple pieces of equipment for every body part... I think your preference has a lot to do with your personality. I have friends that tell me they need a public gym to hold them accountable. I am the opposite... I do everything on my own and prefer it that way.
