What is Suave?
What does it mean to be suave? According to Webster's, it is "smoothly affable and polite though often without deep interest or sincerity.... Superficially gracious in manner". It is a term most often used in reference to men, not women.
Many different men have been considered suave: Cary Grant. Rudolph Valentino. Ralph Feinnes. Richard Gere. Robert Redford. George Clooney. Rhett Butler. James Bond. Don Juan. Or even Fabio. They are all suave, yet each is unique, and different types of women are attracted to them.
So what does a man have (or not have) that makes him suave. There are certain personal characteristics that often go along with being suave:
Affability; charm
Wit or mental quickness
Sexiness and/or sensuality
Impeccable social skills and manners
Often classically good-looking
Charming
Ability to make most women feel special
Men who are suave always seem to know what to say. They are, however, often considered insincere and superficial. They are willing to say or do anything to make a good impression, particularly on women. They are often known for their seduction skills. Many women seem to be attracted to them, even when they recognize that the men do not have serious romantic intentions.
There are several major criteria for considering someone "suave". One is a man's ability to seduce women. The second is his knowledge of social etiquette.
The "art of seduction" is an age-old phrase for the ways both women and men seduce the opposite sex. There are several stereotypes for how to successfully seduce a woman:
Be romantic
Be attentive, have good listening skills
Make women feel sexy and beautiful
Ask questions about her, don't talk too much about yourself
Exude self-confidence without arrogance
Be sexy, sensuous
Do and say things to make her feel special
Social etiquette is another characteristic of being suave - knowing how to treat a woman when taking her out. It is simple, but some men don't "get it". The keys to a successful date are...
Be chivalrous and considerate
Be polite
Maintain eye contact
Ask questions
Compliment her, but don't overdo it
Keep conversation going
Keep it lighthearted and fun
A key to being successful at suave-ness is to know the difference between sexy and cheesy. A "real" suave man is sophisticated and gentile. Being attentive to the emotional and physical needs of women is the key. Gentleness and consideration will get you further than being overbearing and pushy. Confidence is appealing, arrogance is not.
