ahhh. i know what thread maker is tryin to get across, and it is really helpful. A few years ago, i went with my older brother to visit family in ohio and texas. We stayed in texas for 3 weeks, and me being from a big urban city, you dont recognize it, but we all talk generally the same way, in tone and in everything. But in texas, its more of a openhearted down to earth way of speaking. There are so many examples, and it usually comes from older adults. For example, if i was to start saying something, or had an idea, and said nevermind 1/2 way through, because some people werent listening. Im sure you all have had that happen. But out of the blue, my uncle says "no no...keep on talkin, it may seem like were ignoring you, but we're just trying to be social", and i was thinking, its phrases like that, were your in a group with an hb, and you say something like that, maybe change it up a bit, she'll really catch on to ya. Its something with texans, they talk like they are always in control, and will asses the situation, but always reserve some respect for you. I've also seen the same thing from New Yorkers too.Its a really hard point to get across, but i'll make a good thread about it.
