I've had the same job for a number of years, and although sometimes it feels repetitive, overall I like it a lot.

Recently a job opened in my company that makes sense for me to apply to, a sort of natural next step.

However, a big part of me feels some dissonance about applying for it. I've gone over the pros and cons, and I'm not so sure I want to move up. The title is better, the pay only a little better. But I think it would take me out of my wheelhouse and I'd lose some freedoms on my current job which I cherish.

As a man I feel like I'm supposed to have the ambition of moving up, but I don't have that. I pay my bills fine and my job works for me. This would be one of the few opportunities to move up - it's not a guarantee I would get it of course. I really don't want to waste my time if I'm not excited about it.

Have you guys had similar experiences?
