As you all know, I am living under my parental roof. It is absolutely driving me nuts. Yesterday, I washed my car. I was proud of myself since I had saved about 25 bills washing it at home. Guess what? I get chewed out for using too much water. I can't ****ing win.

How do I maintain my sanity in the next few months to a year? I won't have the funds to move out most likely until then...

Honestly, deal with it as much as you can. I'm dealing with it right now, because I know that every dollar I save will cause me to be less stressed out when I finally move away. Think about it, if you go out on your own with $100, it doesn't feel the same if you go out with $100,000. And if you work full time, and save at least 50% of your paychecks (living at home this is pretty easy, just don't buy too many playstation games ya know? You really can't have too many bills) you can accumulate $100,000 in about 5 years. I pay my cell phone, my car insurance, gas, food, tuition, and I still manage to tuck some money away for the future as long as I continue working full time.

Deal with it, and it'll be worth it.

I am one of the few who like living at home. I pay cell phone, gas, and car insurance... that's pretty much it. I am putting away about 400 dollars a check. Most of my friends have their own apartments because they want their freedom. And they have it. But what they don't have is saving money. And they barely have enough for gas. So while they'll probably be paying rent for most of their lives living paycheck-to-paycheck, I'll have my own house with some savings.

Live at home and save as long as you can. Especially in this economy. In the end you'll be glad you did.

I live at home and i like it too. While my parents do get on my nerves sometimes and bringing girls home is not an option, i still enjoy my moms cooking and family's company. I also work full time but am not able to save money because i help my parents out with bills. I make pretty good money too, 1400 a month on hand. i make about 2000 but thats before taxes , 401k, and insurance.

Yeah? Saving money is the biggest excuse someone who is staying at home with their parentals. That's a given when you're in your teens, and it's alright to do so during college or about 1-2 years afterwards (paying off the loan). The exception is if you've been working full time and been living with your folks over over a couple years. Whatever you say, people will think you're lame. It also depends on personality, I'm probably like more space and independence than some of you. Some of you probably like being around people or being dependent on others. Well that's you, just don't give me that save money excuse. Just say you don't like taking care of yourself and going alone in the world.

It depends where you live and what you want to do with yourself. If you want to live independently and rent then that is so easy to do. Just move out and rent. If you are on your own and you want to buy a house then that is a different story alltogether.

Unless you have dual income then it's not easy to do in some countries. It is possible but then you will suffer with a 30 year mortgage and crappy living conditions. If you save 25% of the total cost of the house then you won't be under as much financial strain. Again, all of this varies depending on your location.

If on the other hand you are trying to save up and start a business then saving up for that 'base capital' is a LOT easier if you are not having to pay rent and a million other bills.

The reality is that there are some people who do it 'alone' and still make themselves successful. It is FAR more difficult to do it this way and they deserve a LOT of credit. (Usually it takes them longer as well for the reason that it takes longer to save up capital etc).

On the other hand there are those that have taken an easier option for saving which is also just as legitimate in this day and age (depending on where you live).

And then there are th bums out there who do nothing and mooch off everyone they lay their eyes on. These are the people who need to address some fundemental issues.

I'm sorry, but there is no reason for ANYONE over 23 or with a college degree to be living at home with their parents. I don't know why Gen Y decided to start this trend, but it is pathetic. I can guarantee that most of your parents didn't live at home until their mid-twenties.

Get a cheap apartment, a few roommates if necessary, and be your own man.

I can't imagine having to tell the HB8 I picked up at the karaoke bar to keep it down as I'm giving it to her from behind so she doesn't wake the old man up. This isn't high school anymore...
