There's a good chance that the woman is a single mother. The man might also have kids from a previous relationship. Men are more likely to be childless. A childless man in his 40s and a single mom in her 40s are not a good match. Two single parents in their 40s can be a match, but it's going to be a lot more awkward as compared to if they met earlier in life. A childless man and a childless woman in their 40s can be a good match as well, but both will be more set in their ways and didn't have shared experiences as younger people. Unless they are both practitioners of a religion that bans pre-marital sex, there's not a compelling reason for a childless man and childless woman in their 40s to marry without the possibility of kids. In general, religion would be the primary motivator for any couple in their 40s to marry.

I mean if your trying to have a kid at 40 there's a much higher risk of the child having a developmental disability, but a man's sperm will also attribute to that, if your both 40 its a really bad idea. If one of you are 40, it could just be the same based on the women's age.

I don't think marrying at 40 is necessarily a bad idea if you've fulfilled your reproduction goals and if she's verifiably normal, it's just how do you verify.

A woman never married by 40 is a red flag. She is way past the age to have children, so what is she good for now? These types have some kind of emotional damage that complicated securing a man during the prime years. Attachment issues, lacking basic feminine qualities or maybe sexually abused when younger. Feminism is going to add fuel to this fire as well. Old single women are going to be more prevalent in the future as society brainwashes them to hate men.

40 is a wide spectrum. Depends on how she takes care of her body and what type of personality she has. Most women I know that are 40 are married with children. The others are on antidepressants and floating around life like rudderless boats.

A 40 year old woman today is a Millennial, born in the 1980s. She was in her mid-20s when The Great Recession hit in 2007-08. That messed up a lot of young adults in that time, including men who she possibly could have dated. College tuition was already expensive by the time she arrived on campus.

A 40 year old of the past who born in 1963 or 1968 had way different experiences and a different dating market than a 40 year old right now, who was born in 1983. Childlessness rates of the 40 year olds born in 1983 are higher.
