some of you are of the opinion squats are not good ffor me at 15 and quite honestly uve all scared me out of doing them congratulations.... but what about deadlifts?0

So, would doing leg presses or leg extensions be safer? What about hyperextensions? I'm 16, and I sure could wait another 2 years and just do alternative exercises. The question is, are they safer?

They're the same thing, maybe even harder in terms of technique required.

The ONLY thing I used from your posts is how you feel that at 15 you're more likely to get a hernia. That's all I used. After that, I proceeded to state that I feel...THAT I FEEL...that you're just as likely at any age. Since I feel that this is true, if I went based off your logic (the "you might get a hernia" logic) then that would be saying don't do squats. However, I've been squatting since my freshman year of highschool, on and off of course. I've yet to have any problems...

No hernias.

I know hundreds of kids from many highschools around the city who have been squatting since their freshman year..and I've only heard of ONE problem...


A 120lb kid from a local school got dared to squat 540lbs. He got down, never got back up. Crushed 12th vertebre.

Moral of the story? Don't be f*cking stupid. Did he get a hernia? No. However, he did something that there was no way in hell he was going to be able to pull off, and hurt himself. That's USUALLY how injuries happen when lifting. Rarely do you see somebody get injured while squatting within their strength limits with proper form. I still don't understand where you get all this "At 15 you're more likely to get a hernia just by squatting" stuff.

ben -- my recommendation is that you work on the form for both squats & deadlifts with relatively lighter weights in preparation for hitting them hard once you feel you've hit your full height.
