Predator

It had all the right ingredients: Arnold in his prime, a memorable cast, action, sci-fi, horror, great music, simple but compelling plot.

And of course, the legendary Kevin Peter Hall as the Predator....

Predator never came to mind, but I definitely see your points.

Yeah, good cast. Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura. I liked the guy who played Mack as well.

The Terminator, it was so far ahead of its time. think about it , they were talking about the internet (skynet) over a decade before it would come into use by civilians.

Predator...Terminator...Dances with Wolves...

This thread is like someone asking “What’s the most amazing gourmet meal you ever had?”, only to be answered with hot dogs, spaghetti, or a Three Musketeers bar.

You youngsters must be completely unaware of the rich history of film and its development over the decades.

My vote would be for Citizen Kane, which was a quantum leap forward in film technique, cinematography and narrative style. This film could be considered a complete course in filmmaking. Made by Orson Wells whose career peaked at the tender age of 25.

V for Vendetta (2005), Children of Men (2006) are two cinematic masterpieces which have stood the test of time with me. I've watched them when they were out in the theaters and have continued to re-watch them up to today. Knowing, 2009 is not highly critically acclaimed, but is still a personal favorite.

A more recent masterpiece would be Edge of Tomorrow 2014.

Those are just great movies that have never got old no matter how many re-watches.

I used to like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, but I've lost interest in those movies. Subsequent Terminator franchise movies have killed that franchise and Jurassic Park is just so so. It was nice at the time, but just not too big of a deal with me today.

Cancelled.
It is inane that Gone with the Wind has been a victim of cancel culture. The United States culture is getting cucked by SJWs and leftists.

I'm Italian-American. I happen to like the movie Goodfellas. I could argue that Goodfellas is a negative portrayal of Italian-Americans. Guess what? The Mafia is a part of history for Italian-Americans. History must be accurate. The truth must be told.

Yes, slavery was an atrocity. Slavery ended 150+ years ago. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. That's 55+ years ago. It's important to rectify historical wrongs but erasing history is an atrocity as well.

Film must be preserved and viewed within an appropriate historical context.

Great list. And I love Roadhouse, at least the first half.

Technique-wise it was revolutionary. The story and characters were very good, but not on par with Welles' technical craftsmanship. Still a very entertaining story though, and it's kind of a classic American parable, which repeats itself in real life.

I'm Italian American too (half Italian). While Goodfellas is great, I like Casino even better. Casino also has a great soundtrack.

A few years ago, PBS did a multi part documentary called the Italian-Americans. It was excellent.

I feel the same way. I'm part Italian and I HATE the Italian-American organizations that bytch and moan about Goodfellas, the Godfather, etc. Those are great works of art and everyone knows most Italians aren't "connected." Plus, nobody forces anyone to watch them.

One difference is that at least those two movies were made by Italian-Americans from NY, so they understood the background. Whereas up until recently there weren't a lot of black directors telling black stories. But a great movie should stand on its own merit, even if the message is uncomfortable. (By that metric I think Do The Right Thing is really good, for example.)
