Yes, in the morning is best.
Apart from the points you mentioned, cold showers also wake you up better than coffee and stimulate your blood circulation.
The only benefits of cold showers are it wakes you up and it freshens you in summer times.

I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a Dr. that tell someone "oh those cold showers that you're taking is what's keeping you fit and healthy, and not the healthy life style, healthy food and exercise that you do"

One reason you should take cold showers, Gainz, is to get a clear head so you don't confuse 'health benefits' with 'replace the gym with cold showers'. Nobody in this thread implied that you can counter unhealthy living with cold showers. Get a grip, dude.

I think cold showers are barbaric.

Wow.
Most Dutch houses don't even have air-conditioning.

My current house is the first with central heating, my previous apartment had a gas stove in the living room, but no heating anywhere else in the house:

I had a Zibro Kamin heater for the bedroom in winter, but we didn't use it much.

And when I was vagabonding across the UK, I killed rabbits with a slingshot / catapult, because I couldn't walk around with a longbow like Robin Hood.
It's hard to upgrade 500 year old buildings sometimes haha

If you're going to be masochistic enough take a cold phucking shower in the morning, at least have the sense to stretch so you're not guaranteed to pull something sending your stiff body into a shock-induced spasm.

Might as well ride a damn rodeo bull first thing when you wake up.

My 13-year-old daughter has been taking cold showers since she was seven. Are you sure you're not slightly exaggerating?

In the U.S., an apartment without a hot shower is uninhabitable - rentals must have hot water.

Can a cold shower substitute for an ice water bath after a hard workout?

I have hot water. You take a cold shower by shutting off the hot tap.

A cold shower tends to be colder than an ice bath if you shower long enough.

Apparently.
Next question: Why don't they take cold showers? If only to improve mind and spirit?
Personally I dislike cold, so I improve my mind and spirit improve from hot, steamy showers. Unless it's summer in which case a cold shower is refreshing. So I think the general answer is that each person is different? Not a very sexy answer.

What most people don't get is you can follow a protocol where a cold shower does not feel bad at all. The only thing is that it takes a bit of time.

Btw. the first rule of cold plunges is you always have to talk about it.

Here is my thread about the topic:

Another tip I have heard and tried for gaining cognitive function first thing in the morning is to brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand first thing. It was probably an Andrew Huberman vid where it was mentioned.

I'll be honest, cold showers in the winter are not it for me.

If I can wear shorts outside in the morning, I'm doing cold showers though.
Yeah I keep my home quite cold, I don't even turn on the heat all winter. So a cold shower in the winter is brutal. Even in the summer I won't take them in the morning though, because I put the AC at 60. But they are otherwise great on hot summer days or as a mid afternoon pick me up.

They're also really nice after a sauna. In fact, sometimes I end up staying in a sauna for 45-60m by taking a quick cold shower, getting back in, then rinse repeat a few times. You get a lot of benefit by exposing yourself to both extremes and there are specific data showing it's more effective to alternate hot-cold like that.
