there is atleast one lawyer here that i know of. I was considering law school at one point.

First you need to get your undergrad degree. Then you take a graduate exam designed for students interested in going to law school called the LSAT's. I believe once you start school they teach you general studies first then you can choose your specialization. If you have a criminal record, i don't think you can become a lawyer.

If you cant get into a top 20-30 law school, dont even bother. Have read numerous articles lately about lawyers that don't get accepted to those schools, go to a lower end law school, and come out so far in debt and so underpaid when they do get a job, that they will never be able to pay the debt off. Plus, the hours they work are hellacious.

I think you mean top 20, and if so I agree. Otherwise, unless you're in the top ten percent of your class, then you will barely make enough money to service the debt. Everyone thinks they will do well, but keep in mind that your grade is your rank against your classmates, and law students are the study skills all-stars. Most of them have never done anything in life except study. But if you win the grades contest by working yourself to death, you will demonstrate to big law firms that you have what it takes.

I'm agreeing with the others. If I was allowed to only pick one overrated field, I'd have a tough call between lawyer and doctor.

I am in the process of finishing my masters degree in law (I'm writing my master thesis now and will graduate this spring).

Don't study law unless you love it, and you love to study. Law is a b!tch.
