A Generation of American Men Give Up on College: ‘I Just Feel Lost’

Everybody goes into the trades and the trades won't be worth as much anymore. They are worth so much because they are scarce. Unions, which are responsible for those large incomes, are aware of this and only dole out so many apprenticeships and often to friends and family who can handle the...

A Generation of American Men Give Up on College: ‘I Just Feel Lost’

General advice to "go into the trades" isn't much better than general advice to "go to college." The trades are not for everyone and are probably for less people than college is. For those that have the aptitude remember to SAVE YOUR MONEY! Your body does not last as long as you think it does...

To Mask or not to Mask?

Anyway I don't think you need to wear masks outside unless it's a photo op of course. The clever but not nearly covered enough "My mask protects you and your mask protects me" is the reasoning for mask wearing. I worked in a hospital with a large HIV+ population and we had a fair number of...

Thoughts on what's going on in Afghanistan?

Don't forget the real winner of the Iraqi War, Iran. They defeated us too. All the bombs in the world don't mean sh!t if the people hate you and don't want you there. One thing united Pashtun, Tajik, Uzbek, and Hazara in Afghanistan and Sunni, Shia, Kurd, and Turkmen in Iraq and that's they all...

Thoughts on what's going on in Afghanistan?

We left Afghanistan smoldering, aren't you watching the videos? Didn't matter. People fighting for a paycheck or college aid are not going to beat people fighting for their country and beliefs.

Thoughts on what's going on in Afghanistan?

This was bound to happen. Could have happened in 2002 though. Would have saved us trillions in dollars and millions (?) in lives. I remember some time in early October 2001 being at a gas station in Abington PA having a LONG argument about what would happen in Afghanistan. I was still Red White...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

I completely get the pill aversion. I was averse to infusions before I got them since they were only for the REALLY sick people. But I think watching MS veterans and their progression vs people who get it now and it's no contest. I try to think about wellness holistically which means all...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

I have Multiple Sclerosis. My presentation is, so far, pretty mild and most of my problems are invisible from the outside looking in. But COVID has caused relapses (disease activity) in other people with MS which can accrue and lead to permanent disability. Diet helps symptoms but only that...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

Of course. I counsel people who live unhealthy lifestyles to change it up for themselves and the greater good. Generally out-of-shape people don't ascribe their behavior to freedom and don't transmit fatness to other people so they don't inspire the same resentment that anti-vaxxers do. But...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

I do. Walk, bike, or lift everyday, stick to the Mediterranean diet pretty exclusively, and take expensive medications. I have to think holistically about my own health and my residents. I don't think most people do this about COVID or really any politically-charged position.

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

I won't speculate on whether he smokes or not or about his medical history. I don't even recall ever meeting him since he is not a regular visitor like his sister and her son. I do know he is taking up space in a hospital that could be taken up by, say, heart attack or stroke patients that he...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

Three breakthrough cases at my facility as of this weekend. All from an outside unvaccinated pre-symptomatic family visitor and then a resident bingo party. All my Pfizer vaccinated residents are 80+, female, with a number of health issues, and asymptomatic. All are getting vit d and zinc as our...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

Nurses are talking about quitting because of burn out and people's lack of concern about hospital workers, other citizens, and their own bodies. When people don't give a damn about themselves and the sick and elderly some nurses don't give a damn either. That may end up being our reckoning

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

One trend I of which I would like to make note is a lot of veteran nurses are talking about leaving early or changing jobs. So far it seems like it's just talk but if it becomes a walk away from healthcare we will suffer in the future. I've heard that census counts at the local LPN schools are...

Covid breakthrough case in early stage: anyone used ivermectin or hcq?

Good, I read your post and thought you were going to treat COVID on your own which isn't a good idea. They have undoubtedly treated many COVID patients at this point and will know what's best. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and getting rest in the meantime.

Covid breakthrough case in early stage: anyone used ivermectin or hcq?

In Philadelphia a few hospitals were giving hydroxychloroquine to patients in March/April of last year. Did not have great results and didn't show any efficacy. I also know two people with RA who take HCQ and got COVID, one had a rough time of it. Don't know much about ivermectin but fluids...

Actual status of covid right now? Nurse/Doctor/Medical field insight only please.

My original post was deleted due to the Trump stuff. I will keep that to myself. Flu deaths are pretty high but nowhere near COVID deaths. This year it was lower than other years but not out of it's typical range over the past decade. At their highest it is about 1/10th the amount of COVID...
