Bertha Boronda was arrested for cutting off her husband’s penis with a razor in 1907. She was convicted of the crime of mayhem and imprisoned at San Quentin Penitentiary where she only spent two years of her five year sentence.

She was charged with malicious wounding, he was charged with marital sexual assault. Both were acquitted. Bobbitt successfully pleaded not guilty by reason of temporary insanity and did not serve prison time but serves a brief mandated stint in a psychiatric hospital.

So she was insane the week she cut off her husband’s penis and then went back to normal after the trial. Ok, sounds legit.
