You've been raised on the whole "milk is great" train of thought.

Milk for me and MANY people is what causes puffiness. What a terrible suggestion (no offence)

Avoid it at all costs, thank me later.

Anyone see Everybody Loves Raymond? In one episode Debra has puffy eyes, so Marie comes in with hemerroid cream and says to put this on. Then Robert comes in, notices Debra holding the cream, and goes "Oh, I'm sorry about your...things".

Sleeping with your face up (looking at the ceiling) can help too.

I bought some product for it (I believe the brand was Nivea but I'm not sure) and it helped _sometimes_ but I had to put it twice a day to see some results.

Maybe it works better on other people, or maybe I should try another brand.

I believe I have figured out the cause of my baggy eyes.

It has to do with sleeping.

In my old house, the air was always humid and warm. Not very dry or cold. In my new house which is substantially more insulated, the air conditioner is far more effective, as is the dehumidifier. Now, for the first month or so I attributed my new eye bags to stress from a new environment. I would wake up every morning with sore eyes, look in the mirror and see big puffy dark circles under them. Another thing to note is that when I sleep, the orientation of my new bed puts my face in direct path of the air conditioner vent, so I had a steady stream of cold/dry air on my face all night long.

I thought nothing of it though... About a week ago, I noticed that my scalp was flaking a bit. It happens in winter sometimes to me, when the air gets dry & cold. And I made the connection.

A few days ago, I started sleeping on the ground floor of our house(ironic I know) instead of upstairs. There is an air conditioner on both levels, but the upstairs level is substantially smaller, so the air gets much colder/drier.
First morning of sleeping down there, I wake up and...presto! My scalp is not as flaky, and....my eye bags are almost gone!

Now, three days later, they are gone.

So, here's what to do:

Check your thermostat at night and if you DO get baggy eyes &/or flaky scalp, keep the temperature about 25 degrees celcius. Keep at least your head out of drafts & cold air(away from air vents). Also, check the humidity levels in your place. I think you want them at around 30-35%.

I don't need to mention other helpful tips since they're already covered in this article.

Hope this helps lads!

Oil of olay has a product called Q10, which helps make wrinkles less visible.
I don't know about that particular product, but CoenzymeQ10 (CQ10) is a sort of 'new', popular super-antioxidant that is sold in pill and topical form. I've been using a Nivea cq10 product under my eyes for a couple months and it's sort of "brightened" them up, the dark circles aren't as prominent.

Basically, if I were worried about facial wrinkles, I'd just use a CQ10 topical on my face once or twice a day.

Oh and yeah, milk is overrated. I've been much better off without it.

wrinkles

Hi,
I started developing pretty bad facial wrinkles after I crossed 35. I was pretty upset about it as I really didn't whink my skin would start degrading in my 30s. I tried altering my diet, took a lot of dark coloured vegetables such as beetroot and tomatoes as these were supposed to be good for wrinkles and also drank plenty of water. It didn't really work though and my Doctor had even suggested that I go for a Debrassion treatment to fade out my wrinkles. I then recently read an article by a lady who claimed that she got rid of her wrinkles using a particular anti-wrinkle product. I tried it and it worked really well. Within 4 weeks my wrinkles had faded out and were barely visible. Really good stuff. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below.

Dark Circles

Yes, I know there are several threads on this topic already. However, the most recent ones were started over two years ago so I feel this deserves a bump as times are changing and new products/methods are being used.

I have had dark circles under my eyes my entire life, nothing unbearable but definitely well above the normal person. But I do have a fair skin complexion which makes it more noticeable. I don't want to get a fake tan at the tanning salons because that is bad for your skin and just causes more wrinkles.

I've done a TON of internet research but I'm still not sure which method to use. A lot of the research done is oriented towards anti-wrinkle, anti-bags and what not. My eyes are not puffy at all and really it's just the dark colour combined with my fair skin that has a negative impact. I've read someone used Aloe w/ a hint of vitamin K, but there weren't many other supporters who used the same method. Another person claimed to use Nivea Eye Cream but the reviews online were mixed and most said it helped with puffiness but not dark circles. I've also heard that placing cucumbers on your eyes help, which I am more than willing to try, but how long does that last for? Do you have to put that over your eyes everyday or what?

Any other insights or personal reviews would be much appreciated. Looking at online reviews from websites is always questionable since I'm not sure if those are made out of authentic. But asking in a forum environment can hopefully provide more true feedback. Thank you.

my family is prone to dark circles under our eyes no matter how much sun we get. especially if we are very tired.
i have heard that lack of iron can contribute to it.
however, none of us have iron deficiencies.

once i heard that you can take preparation h and put a tiny pea size amount on your eyes before bed and puffiness would go away.
well i tried it, even though they weren't very puffy.
the circles would fade away over night.
a week or two later they would come back.

i don't think about putting the stuff on that often, so when i do, it's great but it eventually comes back.

There are a number of reasons this occurs in people, the most obvious one is of course, genetics.

Lack of certain vitamins is another, as penny said Iron, vitamin K & vitamin D are some of them, and of course there are more, about 6 or 7 that make a big impact.

Dehydration or lack of water is another, most people simply do not get enough water, and this is a very common one.

Sleep deprivation or a lack of sleep is the cause that most people experience.

Allergies can be a cause, not just for puffy eyes but some people get dark circles as well.

Certain medications will contribute to this also.

Smoking.

Excess of salt in your diet.

These are the main ones I have come across myself, I can't think of any more right now.

Same here, mine is genetics. It's frustrating to hear people say "Just sleep 8 hours a day and take a vitamin" type stuff and they think that's the cause. I try to get a good night sleep, I never smoke, I don't have much salt in my diet. Okay maybe I could use a few more vitamins in my diet, or could drink some more water but to be honest when I was taking a vitamin everyday I didn't notice any improvement. Couldn't hurt I suppose though.

I'm not looking for a permanent cure, because I figure other than some kind of collagen (skin) stimulating laser therapy to thicken the skin the next best option are lifestyle/products. However, I'm not sure about preparation H being used as a long term solution. It's not really meant for the eyes and I've heard over time it can cause damage to your skin since it constricts the blood vessels. I hear it works great though and I'll do some more research on that.

I'll try drinking more water, though I doubt that'll help. Vitamins couldn't hurt either. To be honest the dark circles aren't anything that bad but they show more because of my fair skin complexion. I live in an area where it's only sunny for a few months of a year so it's not that viable to just "get a tan". Tanning salons aren't that good for you as it increases the rate that your skin thins and degrades over time.

I think I should take a large scale approach and work in creams, more water, more vitamins, good sleep, and maybe a little more tanning in order to combat the issue. I don't think one method on its own will solve the issue, but putting everything together should hopefully help. Any other suggestions or testimonies are more than welcome.

Okay I've just done another day of researching, I think I might've stumbled upon something worthwhile.

It's called Elite Eye Serum. They have a number of before and after photos with clinical trials backing up their claims. I have scoured the internet and searched about 50 different pages regarding this item and everyone is raving about this new product out in 2009. I have not seen a single bad review from customers, doctors, or cosmetic review sites.

Now how is this different from other hyped up cosmetic products? Other products, such as Lifecell, Hylexin, which were hyped up and expensive did have A LOT of bad reviews if you looked carefully. I'm willing to bet that a lot of their positive reviews were fake. I'm not saying that some of the reviews for Elite Eye Serum aren't made up, but when I haven't found a single bad thing said about it is encouraging. It's past all FDA approval standards and has a list of ingredients that have some excellent in trials. It costs like $100, which is pretty pricey but not unreasonable. I'm considering giving this a shot but I'm tempted to consult with a dermatologist beforehand. Even if it helps a little bit, in my view it's totally worth a money because you can't put a price on making yourself look refreshed and younger.

To the OP

Yes - genetics, and bad sleep patterns will cause dark circles to form under your eyes

But there is also another factor

Do you watch a lot of porn? - rhetorical question

Lusting too much with your eyes will cause dark circles under your eyes

This was a secret discovery of the ancients in India

Personal experience - as I used to watch porn a lot - and I actually proved the ancient Indian Yogis correct

But if you only watch porn occasionally and not for long periods of time - like under one hour - then you probably won't be able to see the effects

If you really want to test this for yourself- take a pic of yourself, then watch porn for like 3 hours straight - then take a look at your eyes and compare your eyes to the picture. You will see these dark circles under your eyes.

Also - there is a saying that 'Masturbation makes you go blind'

Here in the west, we dismiss that saying as BS

But the *origins* of that saying actually came from the Hindus in India. The ancient Indian Yogis didn't mean that masturbation would literally make you go blind - but that when you masturbate a lot - you lose sex energy, so you lose that *glint* in your eyes. Your eyes lose that 'wide awake look' and they appear very downcast.

It's funny cause just recently this girl was like: 'Hey why do your eyes appear so big and *sparkling*?'

Well I know the answer - it's because I stopped masturbating - I didn't bother trying to explain to her
