the last reboot was in 1970 (with Chris reeve). In 2006, superman returns was not a reboot, but a continuation of Christopher Reeve's superman.... but that one failed miserably

Man of steel is looking to be the best comic book movie up to date.... I'll bet on it!
I think its going to do just OK. I dont expect it to be anything big or great. I think for the most part, people are just over Superman. Hes seen as too invulnerable and the kryptonite angle is played out. Thats the big issue...hes just too powerful, and the suspension of disbelief with superheros can only go so far. Hes got sooooo many abilities and his only weakness is the same green rock we always see.
Never mind the fact that his character has always been largely boring with little substance. The last Superman reboot/sequel attempt was proof of people being over the hero. The last film was not a bad film (got pretty good reviews and did ok in the box office)...its just that I think Superman is one of those franchises that is one and done when it comes to movies.
Now some of you may think "well didnt Smallville do very well?". In the case of Smallville, you had a tv show which allowed teenagers and college aged young people to relate to superman growing up. It basically took the angle of targeting young folks and the things they go through growing up....and then having super powers to be used while growing up. That does well in a tv show since it can be drawn out over the years and let kids grow with the character. How many young people wish they had something extra that allowed them to cope with their daily lives?
In the case of Superman in movies, he always been a grown man with a largely boring character. Im sure if you started a film series with Superman as a teenager or college aged guy (as they did with both of the last Spiderman franchises), and you altered his powers a bit to make him less invulnerable (and remove kryptonite too, which Ive heard the new film has done), that youd have a series that could easily spawn 3 great movies with the right writing.

I feel this movie will change the game of superman movies, this movie seems like it is going to go in a different direction, the cgi looks amazing and the villain looks like he is going to be bad ass.
I never been a fan of superman movies, even the chris reeves versions, but I actually want to see this one.

went to go see it just got back.
solid 7.5 out of 10. now you see me is a better movie but this isn't a BAD movie. it could have been better. but its not bad. defiantly worth price of admission

I saw it over the weekend. It was as good as a Superman movie can be IMO. Superman was never one of my favorites and I find him pretty boring overall compared to other superheros. Man of Steel actually made him somewhat interesting so I enjoyed it.
Not sure if I'll bother with the sequel and I doubt I'll watch this movie again. Not because its bad in any way.. just because I still think Superman is lame compared to other superheros. He's at his best in Man of Steel though.
