I just bought 2 pair of chinos one pair is lighter and the other a bit darker. I have 4 new sports shirts from Claps and a new pair of Clark casual brown shoes.

This isn't my normal dress but trying a different style from my usual blue jeans though I will still wear them on accasion.

I was thinking about wearing anyone of the sports shirts with them plus the Clarks plus a brown belt. I also thought about wearing a white dress shirt no tie and go that way. Would either of these looks be OK or does it matter or are there rules to these type of pants. These pants cost each about 40 bucks so not cheap.

Making changes to what I normally am use to is a bit of a challenge and a bit scary at the same time but I want to look more appealing to the opposite sex when out and about if you will but it's my way to reward myself for making a couple great investments discisons back in March of 09 that are paying off handsomely and I'm just feeling good about that part of my life.

I notice the pictures were short sleeves I would assume that wouldn't matter if I wore the white dress shirt would it. The shoes I have are casual brand by Clark paid 80 bucks would that be OK.

shoes

to each his own on shoes. but the are the most important of a man's wardrobe. dont' skimp out or buy some ****ing seketchers or supid ass **** like that. go get you a nice pair of Kenneth coles (at least) and if you can afford it get a custom pair made.

yes it does matter.

it's a certain "look" youa re going for

short sleeve button down polo =casul yet classy

long sleeve polo shirt wtih chinos =a dork or a guy getting ready to go to work

you wear long sleeve polo's with slacks, not chinos.

I assume when you say "sports shirts" you mean polos? If so, that's fine. As for the white dress shirt: you should probably roll the sleeves up a couple times and leave a button or two unbuttoned; you don't want to look too dressy.

Edit - something like this: http://www.brandish.tv/david beckham white shirt.jpg

Just to add these Chinos on the label say outdoor Chinos does that make a difference in what type of shoes or shirts to wear?

This can get confusing no wonder most stick with jeans.

OK just making sure I also notice that most Chinos don't have pockets on the side of the leg but one pair of chinos does and the tag says outdoor chinos. Not sure if that matters but I know they are nice.

Those shoes are fine, man. I think you're over analyzing.

okay look

first of all, the ones with the side pockets really aren't chinos as much as they are just khaki colored jeans.

you treat those like khaki colored blue jeans, and wear with them whatever you would wear with blue jeans. If you are going to wear the roll up shirt and go for that look these are the pants you do these with.

I have a feeling these are the type of jeans you are talking about

http://www.canterburynzusa.com/View...ectedIds=11715,11749,11757&curId=11757&#color

those it is okay, while i hate the look, that's something i would buy my 2 year old to run around in, that is okay to wear with sneakers and a roll up shirt.

please, for the love of god, do not wear those shoes with regular banana republic/polo/Ralph Lauren type chinos like these

http://www.landsend.com/pp/PlainFro....html?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-null-_-LIQ-_-data_feed

while those chinos suck, those are real chinos. you do not wear sneakers with chinos

you can never over dress and over analyze clothes my man. the more you learn the more **** you can pull off and actually look good doing it.

I think it's a crying shame the level of dress our country has steeped to since in the last 50-60 years. Men in the 40's and 50's had style and knew how to dress, and didn't have to ask women what looks good on them.

A man should know what looks good, what doesn't, what colors go together, what types of shoes to wear and when, how to tie a tie, how to tie a bowtie, how to wear a hat when need be, etc.

I'm starting to think we do need a fashion forum if even just to get basic stuff down.

with those shoes, you have narrowed down to what you can wear. that's not really my style so i will bow out

Thanks backbreaker, I agree we need a fashion forum that would be very helpful for the men who are trying to make a change. Here is what chinos I have only a lighter color just wish I would have paid the lower price instead of 40 where I bought mine>

man that's a tough call.

I would treat those more like the first ones than the 2nd pair. the side pockets just make them more jeansy.

every man should have a couple of pair of good fitting chinos in their closet.

I have about 5 pair of chinos in all, all are ralph lauren.. this is what I have

http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3678180&ab=crosssell_2_3678182_3678180

very, very versatile. I could probably wear 80% of my shirts in my wardrobe with chinos and pull it off if I had to. I can tuck in a polo, I can wear a long sleeve polo (that's not my look so no but you could technically do it), I can can james bond in the nassau scene in casino royle with the white button down polo (which i actually did pretty recently), I can throw a blazer over it, I can wear a sweater with them..My style of dress probably doesn't fit in here. I'm a textbook pretty boy. I'm fit and I like my clothes to fit my body.. I like to dress up.

It really all comes down to your "look". I know my "look" and so when I see something I know what I would wear with it.

If you really want to learns bout style, spend some time defining your "look" and everything else will come into play.

Don't forget the biggest thing about clothes though is how you wear them, you need to make sure you subconsciously look like a man. When you are just standing there thinking make sure you look good doing it, when you are walking across a parking lot make sure that everyone can tell by your walk that you know you are the man.

you could find yourself a good shirt at custom stitchers according to what your chinos gets on with.
