Yeah...I think the fact he put so much effort in and kept texting and emailing about his "empire," kind of burned him.

"Look, we understood we couldn't make it illegal to be young or poor or black in the United States, but we could criminalize their common pleasure. We understood that drugs were not the health problem we were making them out to be, but it was such a perfect issue... that we couldn't resist it."
—John Ehrlichman, White House counsel to President Nixon

"[Nixon] emphasized that you have to face the fact that the whole problem is really the blacks. The key is to devise a system that recognizes this while not appearing to."
—H.R. Halderman, Nixon White House Chief of Staff

“The reason some drugs are legal and others are not has nothing to do with science or health or the risk of drugs, and everything to do with who uses, and is perceived to use, certain drugs. If the principal smokers of cocaine were affluent older white men and the principal users of Viagra were young black men, using Viagra would land you time behind bars.”

Of course! There's a government conspiracy to keep the black man down!

That is what you're implying, isn't it? How long have you been saving those choice quotes, deep dish? The only time you ever chime in is when marijuana is up for discussion. You're the epitome of bias. And after reading that post, I assume you're also a black man with a chip on your shoulder.

The American Civil Liberties Union report on disproportionate drug arrests, along with the White House sources, along with the corporate private for-profit prison industry, should be adequate evidence of probable cause.

You should click on my name to see my profile pic before making such an assumption. I don’t intend to get into further discussion.

(On a side note, there is also civil asset forfeiture. The government can seize your home or car or your cash without you ever being charged with a crime.)

the U.S. justice department is literally an extension of government. There are no degrees of separation and even the appearance of such, is gone.

This is just another example of a country in the grip of a police state.

Huh??? I guess you missed that day of class in 8th grade or 12th grade government. Dude, the Department of Justice isn't an extension of the government, it is a part of the government. The DOJ is a law enforcement agency.

This guy was making bank and the government used emotion to get a piece of it.

Check out the emotional power:

Two parents of children (identified only by their first names and last initials) who had died while using drugs obtained on Silk Road spoke to the court. Richard B., whose 25-year-old son died of a heroin overdose, expressed his anger at the people who have defended Ulbricht publicly. “Since Mr Ulbricht’s arrest, we have endured the persistent drumbeat of his supporters and their insistence that Silk Road was victimless,” he said. “I strongly believe that my son would be here today if Silk Road had never existed.”

Vicky B, whose 16-year-old son died after taking a powerful synthetic at a party and jumping from a second-story roof, said that the time since her son’s death had been unbearable. “This is the photo of the last kiss from my son,” she said, holding up a photo of herself with her son Preston before the school ball where he died.

“We keep Preston’s ashes at home,” she said, her voice breaking. “Sometimes I just hold them. Sometimes I get under a blanket with them and try to get warm.”
No....it wasn't the kids' fault for smoking heroine and spice, it was the dealers, because I'm sure he put a gun to their head and forced them to go online and buy his stuff. Not to mention that yes, it's true, use Silk Road and you don't have to f*ck with street dealers, which makes it safer.

What a racket. People suck.

Has to be a coincidence that leftists who support government presence everywhere to tell the citizen what do to fully support such punishment while conservative and libertarians are somehow less harsh on that.

I guess the whole silk road point is not about drug but about freedom and control.

Well the deep dark web is the basis of "freedom without control."

You would be amazed at how well some of those hackers actually are.

It doesn't read to me like he sold drugs or anything else. He opened a marketplace on which illegal goods and services were sold. Maybe I'm wrong. These parents expressing their anger that their kids OD'd on smack have a great scapegoat. So does the government, which hates anything it can't tax, regulate, and criminalize.
