Has anyone of you ever been addicted to surfing, online chatting etc. ? How did you break out of it/get rid of it ? It has become a habit for me and I've been doing it for many years. It is an absolute waste of time, causes distraction and leads to other problems and disturbances [Regular masturbation, perversions, not to mention guilt]. Any help/advice would be highly appreciated :)

Put a timer next to your monitor and start limiting yourself. Don't use a PC-based timer, but rather a physical one like you can buy at Radio Shack.

I have started to focus more on my career, take an interest in things that help me progress and slowly the distractions have started to lessen/have dropped off on their own. Hopefully it will get better :)

I think it's a wide problem. Its solution depends on a person, especially on his(her) wishes. In general, everyone faces with it from time to time, and for many of us it passes by itself.

Get an uncomfortable chair.

Get a naggy wife/girlfriend who wants you to fix stuff around the house.

Get kids.

First of all: Don't just rely on yourself.

When you fail the willpower test, you'll just beat yourself up. So use some helpful shortcuts.

Step 1. Install a porn blocker. One of those ones that requires some 32 digit key that even if you have written down, you are never likely to have the patience to type it in.

Step 2. Bookmark every page you frequent via this http://keepmeout.com/en/ You can set it so that you can only access them so many times a day etc.

Step 3. Don't waste your free time. Make goals for yourself and plan how you are going to use it. Tidy your house, ride your bike, workout, go to a museum. Go live your life!

I like this last advice. Setting personal targets and making efforts to achieve them can help develop yourself.

As more and more Internet service providers start capping usage you may eventually find that your wallet fixes the issue for you. Buy the lowest package possible and be forced to use it sparingly.

Get rid of the computer in your house. Find access to a clean and quiet computer lab or coffee shop nearby. Visit the lab like you would visit the gym, for an hour or two per day. This will help to eliminate any temptations since you are in a public place. It also has some social advantages since you are more likely to have interactions with people if you are using the internet publicly.

Although, I've seen homeless guys looking at some straight hardcore P sites in the library

Reduce your time spent on mobile devices or tablets. I have stripped my smartphone to the bare: it does not have facebook, twitter, games, etc. I only use it to call/text, check bus times, and checking the email.

Or, as Dust 2 Dust remarked, you could buy a regular phone without smartphone capabilities.

LOL. That's surprising, I thought those kind of sites would be blocked at a library.

fishing is one of my favorite past times and i was always into sports. i can play volleyball, football, basketball, handball, soccer, you name it. use the internet as a tool to enrich your life. theres plenty of activity groups. find something you like or always wanted to do and go do it. you might even meet a girl or two.
