You might be surprised I agree with most of what you said (except what's in bold), especially on the Swedish Europe situation. I'm responding to the people calling me a socialist or communist because I divert from the "manly conservative" party line on ONE issue. I believe if we're going to have a minimum wage, it should move with inflation. That's it. But apparently that's a dealbreaker for these ideologues who oddly enough would rather subsidize poor people themselves than allow billionaires to do it.

Let me clarify something - I am not on the left. I'm against gay adoption, affirmative action putting unqualified women and minorities into positions of power, illegal immigration, the refugee crisis. And if the elections come down to these issues, I'm voting conservative.

But I'm also not for corporate oligarchy like some of the guys in this thread - an issue many libertarians actually feel passionate about. They despise it as much as they despise socialism. Because yes, when corporations buy our government it is fascism. It's not my problem Danger doesn't know the definition of the word.

You failed once again to address the two crucial points that make my argument for me and instead want to engage in ad hominem attacks based on a tiny bit of info I gave you about myself. Point 1: Inflation has actually reduced the minimum wage in the last decade. So bringing it up to $10.10 does nothing to increase a person's buying power - it only keeps it exactly where it's always been. 2. We have a crazy number of people on welfare, which you are subsidizing yourself with your taxes. And the Walton family loves you for it. I assume you want all those people off welfare AND working for just the minimum wage, but that's never going to happen. They're going to get the help from somewhere (as long as the Republicans continue to **** the bed in general elections). You should stop living in a laissez faire utopia that hasn't existed for decades, be realistic and decide which situation is worse - you picking up the tab or the Waltons.

Your inflation comment still rests upon the core belief of intervention in free markets. Those minimum wage jobs are not meant to raise families. Anyone who has a minimum wage job DOES NOT deserve handouts in the form of Government force and intervention. They need to improve themselves and not cannibalize the productive members of society.

Sometimes these people are faced with a choice between being homeless, and cleaning toilets for a net pay per week that amounts to less than the equivalent of a month of groceries. Forget rent and utilities.

It's one thing to have this crop of Republicans lobby to keep the minimum wage $7.25, but I can't believe I've actually found people in favor of a $2 wage if "both parties agree to it."

And wrong as they are on so many issues, they're right on this, and you're very likely to see a minimum wage increase by end of 2017. So at least common sense will win out.

And no, violence will not befall on the corporations. The penalty for breaching labor laws is not death or rape. They'll face civil penalties.

Finally - all government laws are ultimately enforced with violence. What do you think happens to people that disobey the law and don't face "civil penalties"? You know that people get arrested at gunpoint, don't you? And if they resist arrest they will be shot. That's pretty violent.

When you take all the politics out of it, it boils down to you not liking someone else's decisions, whether it's a wage-payer, or a wage-earner. You don't have to be a Republican or Democrat to understand that someone else's choices don't need to be your concern.

The worker has no power when corporations buy politicians, who in turn give them a bunch of tax breaks and screw over the little guy.

You have this misinformed perception that's its only people making minimum wage getting screwed over. The middle class has been obliterated under the market model you covet. I have a relative who made $102,000 in 2003. Is that enough "accountability" for you? Know what he made his last year on the job? $47,900 for the same exact work.

Why? After the owner died his idiot son took over and bent his employees over the table, and the union kowtowed. There is no lengths the 1% won't go. They'd abolish the 13th amendment if they could, and a few of you here would support that. Because who "deserves freedom" anyway??
