When I upped my distance and time to 30 min running non stop I got excruciating pain in my lower back after about 20 min.when I stopped it eased and was gone after about 10 min. Any ideas how to prevent this? I have only been running for about six weeks.

I understand running is very accessible, but could you do a different sport? If you want some cardio activity, swimming should have much less impact on your joints and back. Cycling could also be a possibility.

What are your goals? Losing weight? Remaining healthy? Increasing your sexual market value?

Running, like lifting, is something you need proper form for to handle the repeated impacts.

Where exactly in your lower back do you feel the pain? without knowing, we can't pinpoint the specific issue.

The single best lower back pain treatment you can do is something called Foundation Training by Dr. Eric Goodman. Another poster, Effort, put me onto this and I've had no lower back pain for months after dealing with it to varying degrees for a few years now thanks to deadlifts, squats and other heavy lifts...

As he says at the end of the video, "Do this everyday and you'll have no lower back pain ever". And its pretty much true.

Anyone dealing with lower back pain or issues should be doing this daily in the morning, it takes about 12 minutes, and its surprisingly intense...

It retrains your body to use its posterior chain properly and really stretches out the muscles that can get compressed and shortened from sitting a lot and poor posture most people have...

^ I just tried that video. Thats difficult, lol I had to pause and rest several times to get to the end. My legs kept burning out. I'm going to try it out everyday until I can do it with no pauses and then keep going and see if it helps.

Even exercise, which a majority of experts agree is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy back and chase away aches and pains, can be problematic. If you must lie down, do so for a few hours and for no more than a couple of days. Light activity is best.

Sounds pretty bad and I strongly recommend you seek professional medical advice. I would start with a sports physio. They will do a basic posture/alignment check and look for obvious causes of your back pains, which could me a number of things really...there is no guarantee they will find the cause/solution and may refer you to other specialist for further examination. I broke my spine when I was younger and this weakened my lower back. I made full recovery but still had a weaker back until I trained hard to strengthen it in the gym. Made all the difference and my back is now the strongest part of my body. In kitesurfing the back muscles are probably the most solicited and at the highest intensity as well, and therefore it should be the strongest.
