Unless he gets an annulment and hickory, it's half his now.
Unless he signs a note, the husband is not on the hook for debts that the wife carries into the marriage. So yes, he is a hero. He could have just divorced her ass.

Look at the two of them. He's a nerd, and she's a slvt, I guarantee. The theme of the article is that if you are a nerd, you had better be good enough with money to drop $100k on a wife, because that's how you get a woman. And that's why you need Business Insider. Sign up for our newsletter...

The real question is: why this guy did not do a credit check on a woman that he's legally bonding himself to (supposedly for life)? I'd be willing to bet that he's not exactly a financial wizard himself.

He didn't do a credit check because he wasn't thinking "I'd better check this out so I don't make a mistake."

He was thinking, "Damn I'm so lucky! I'd better not mess up this! Damn I'm lucky!"

Well, I mean, he didn't need to announce it to her. If they were living together, I'm sure that it would have been pretty easy to get her SSN and other info needed for this kind of check without her even knowing.

Neither did I. I was pointing out WHY the thought never even crossed his mind. MOST dudes when they are about to get laid, get married, get a girlfriend, are NOT thinking "am I really making the right choice here?" They're thinking that this is the best thing that's ever happened, and their mentally walking on eggshells so they don't mess it up.

This is just not something normal dudes think about. Few men think of marriage as a "business arrangement."

It pretty much is a business arrangement though.

Personally, I do background checks on women before I even consider dating them (not extensive at first). If I'm going to ever get married, best believe that I'll do an extensive background check. As many have described on this forum, it's financial suicide for men to marry the wrong women.

Same reason I, a police officer, didn't do a background check on the wh0re I had a marriage ceremony with in 09. But then found out she had 2 other husbands in other States... Cuz we as humans default to trusting the people we love and care about. And it often is too much trust for our own good . For most of us it takes a few good screw overs from women and in life before we wisen and toughen up about who we let in our lives and what relationships/agreements we enter into with them..

Fair enough. And, yeah, that sucks man. Sorry to hear about your experience.

I guess I'm lucky in that I've been screwed over and have seen so many good people (both men and women) screwed over so many times that I consider it a prerequisite to do a preliminary background check on a woman before even getting involved with her. It's crazy how sketchy people can be these days. You just never know.

Exactly...I would believe that most guys wouldn't want to rock the boat. They wouldn't want to ask questions that might make a woman mad. I do this myself sometimes...why is it that men let women control them with anger? It should be if I am checking your credit and you don't like it then I will move along if you don't agree. I wouldn't be sneaky about it.

To each their own.

I've actually done this kind of thing before and I'm usually pretty sneaky about it. Avoids what I view as unnecessary confrontation.

I would suggest it's much more instinctive than that. A good to go women is the prime directive for all men, whether we like it or not. Humans wouldn't have conquered the Earth otherwise. It's EASY to second guess on the Internet, while your not FEELING any of those emotions that drive human procreation, which ARE the most powerful emotions a man will feel.

It's not dissimilar to talking smack on the internet about how you should only eat 2K calories a day of certain fats, proteins or whatever, and then forget all that nonsense when you've got a plate of chili cheese fries in front of you.

Our animal instincts control us much more than we'd like to admit. Even to ourselves.

I suppose there was an ancient race of caveman who took a lot of rational thought into whether or not to bang that good to go cave girl. But while they were thinking, some other caveman banged her and those rational thinking cavemen didn't pass on those rational thinking genes, since they were too busy stroking their chins to ever get laid.

I absolutely agree with you. We are driven by our prime directive. However, in my opinion, our biological impulses can be overcome by experience and learned behaviors. One can even argue that developing reactions based on learned behaviors is, in itself, a biological impulses.

Agreed. But, to some degree, YMMV.

Personally, it's sheer dumbluck that I didn't get married to a similar woman that many of the posters here married. A few years ago, I was in an LTR with a girl that (now looking back) absolutely had borderline personality disorder, but I failed to see it. Everyone else around me saw how crazy she was, but I couldn't see it. As luck would have it, I was activated by the military (I was a reservist) and stationed far away from her. She was unable to come with me due to other commitments and cheated on me not a month after I left. I was devastated at the time, but, looking back, I got extremely lucky....because I would have gone all in on that one.

Since that woman (and a few after her), I've learned a lot about myself and how I respond to women. I tend to get attached very quickly. So before I allow myself to even begin that process, I make sure that I've fully screened her and know, with a high degree of certainty, what I'm getting myself into (of course, there always will be a bit of mystery at first and things may not always be as they seem....but, in general, I've been pretty on recently).

Of course, I will readily admit that I am not the average human and that I think very differently from most people. So I do not expect my experience (and my handling of situations) to be the normal response.

The thing is though that society has GREATLY changed since the days of the caveman. Presumably, the caveman preceded prostitution. It certainly preceded feminism, porn, and reproductive technology.

These days, you can have your sexual needs met without leaving the house. And you don't even need a partner to reproduce (though, for men, it will be costly).

These privileges were not available to cavemen, who, basically, had to fight to reproduce and had to fight to get and keep a woman. All we need to do is jump on a plane to a third world country and we're set. :)

Which is why they haven't been hard wired into our instincts.

A conscious knowledge of being able to bang some "new" girl whenever we want is NOT the same thing as the deep, unconscious FEELING a man gets when he feels he has a consistent stream of ***** which is also attached to a lot of other positive emotional instinctive rewards.

Just like we have access to nutritional information, all kinds of different food sources, and we KNOW we can get good any time we want, but most Americans are fat as fvck anway.

Instincts will ALWAYS override even the BEST consciously chosen plan. That's why it's hard to lose weight based on willpower alone. A study in Britain recently found that only 2% of fat people who tried to lose weight ever lost it and kept it off for a significant amount of time.

AND I would further argue that girls with a negative history (extreme debt, other marriages, etc) will consciously and unconsciously go to great lengths to keep them hidden.

Few men ever go into a marriage as a BUSINESS arrangement. At least not in the last eight to ten decades. They did before, when both incomes (or work efforts) were required, but not anymore.

The industrial revolution put a lot of things off balance that mother nature took MILLIONS of years to fine tune.

I like how the article pays no attention to how the wife deceived her husband, or how unfair it is that the husband did all the work (and then some) to pay off his wife's debt... while she herself did nothing.

When the guy had to buy the fixer upper in an ploy to payoff the wife's expenses, she didn't like the living condition,

Unfortunately, his wife, Christine, was far from pleased. “She said she’d never live in it,” he said.
So... what did she do?

Fortunately for him, he had some time to fix it up. Christine had just left for a one-year dietitian internship in Michigan, and he used that time to spring into action.
LOL
She moved for an internship? For a year?? I wonder how any c*cks she guzzled while her "husband" fixed everything back at home. Gotta love how she's a dietitian, but is overweight too...

And then at the end the article gives a shout out to something Christine accomplished...

Phillip’s business has taken off and Christine has landed steady work
In other words, she finally got a job. YOU GO CHRISTINE! Way to make bad financial choices, screw over your husband, and then do the absolute bare minimum!

Kudos to the guy for finding a way to pay it off, but the real story is how much of a scum bag the wife is. Unbelievable.

Lol. I don't understand why men choose to marry these degenerate women. It's ridiculous.
