What workouts should I do if I want to improve my game in basketball, my time in swimming, and abilities on the snowboard?

What workouts should I do to become a better snowboarder, basketball player, and swimmer?

It's such a broad question it would take weeks to answer.

Agreed that's one hell of a complex question. The reason being that they're all vastly different sports and require vastly different muscle mechanics and even energy pathways.

At the risk of sounding stupid, the most simple way to improve your results would be to swim, ski, and play b-ball more, and make sure your technique is sharp in each. In other words you'll need a lot of spare time...

All look like endurance sports so use high reps and low weights. Beyond that, it'd be hard to design a program that'd maximize all three.

The book Getting Stronger has weight training for each kind of sport.

LOL, Fitch, your lucky, There's no real arm or chest workouts required for these sports!

BBall is strategy and speed.
Swimming is Speed and flowwww.
Snowboarding is style and balance, to work on style, you need to experiment with your body movements.

So what you've got to do to is work on your power in your legs and your core. Ta dum.

You could tell that to me in more detail though couldn't you?

Basketball: Calfs, legs, forarms. Go for springlike movements
Swimming: Not sure My guess is back and shoulders. Go for controled flowing movments
Snowboard: Core + Flexability? Not sure

not that hard..

basketball: handling drills, shooting, plyos for hop

Swimming: swim more often duh, do splits and endurance training

snowboard: well, even a 5 year old can answer this, PRACTICE'

Like other's have said this is a very broad question and training for 3 sports at once, would not be a good idea.

A general weight training program that focuses on low (1-5) to medium rep (6-10) core compound exercises and trains movements (e.g. push/pull/legs, upper/lower or fullbody) rather than muscle groups (e.g. chest&bi/back&tri/legs&delts), will work well for most sports.

Improving your GPP (general physical preparation) - your all-round physical conditioning, will also help you with most sports. Do a search on google for 'GPP workouts' for some examples.

Also flexibility is important for all these sports, so stretching sessions should be included.

For basketball, I would add some specific skill work and some sprint training (inc. plyos) for the above, not long distances, but short distances between 5-20m, as realistically you are not going to be sprinting any further than that in a game.

For swimming it is very open to what distance you are swimming as to how your training will be directed. Technique work on yor strokes would also be an important part of training.

Snowboarding would require a great deal of core strength along with balance. There's no real substitute for getting out on the snow, although many snowboarders cross-train with skateboarding, surfing and/or wakeboarding in the offseason.
