In my life I've had two girls inparticular that have latched onto me for much longer than one would reasonably expect. The one that is still current, has lasted for four years and I still see the same sort of behavior I saw in her when she first formed her little crush on me. In fact, it has probably gotten more intense by this point, despite the fact that I'm not giving her much to go on.

Just kinda curious what this sort of behavior means... obviously infatuation initially, but since she can't seem to get her mind off of me and form good relationships with other guys, well I'm not sure what to think. Any comments?

Yeh i know what you mean. When i was in a relationship back in school (for about a year), some other HB was onto me hard for that year. I mean ok i would of understand if the crush lasted a couple of months but it lasted the whole year. When i left school we then left eachothers paths but god knows if we still saw eachother, if she would be onto me. Id defintly wold make a ove if i bumped into her one day coz she was that obvious for that year.

But damn 4 years!?

Infatuation lasts as long as the person allows it to. Usually it is prolonged by any sense of hope.

I have had long term infatuations with 2 ex-girlfriends before now. The one went on for 5 months and ended when she went back to her ex-boyfriend. The other lasted 3 months and ended when she moved away and ignored my calls.

If you want to end her infatuation with you, she needs to be clear that there is no hope for the two of you, ever! Maybe you should tell her that you're seeing someone else.

Depends

Depends upon how much contact you have. The longer a time you actually spend together, the less likely infatuation is to continue.

But say 2 people meet while one of them is on an overseas vacation. Then, with only occasional meetings, all of which are in fun, "party time" circumstances, yes, infatuation can continue and even intensify for a long time, even years.

Leads to a lot of bloody disappointing marriages...

That does seem to make sense. Both of these cases have sporadic contact, although they are in a more 'sober' atmosphere and not this party type situation you speak of. With the girl that I've known since 4th grade (so that would be 11 years... not exactly a continuous infatuation, she's much more clear-headed than this other one)... I run into her a few times a year at most at various locations. It usually ends up that we talk for a bit, she tries to flirt, even directly asked me to spend the weekend with her once, but I never call her back, we lose touch for an extended period of time, repeat. To be quite honest I really like this one, its just our timing is so terrible, I'm usually involved with someone else or I'm under too much stress/busy to spend time with her, etc. She usually gets angry/sad after every time I blow her off, but just when I think she's not gonna want to come back, she usually does. Last encounter with her was 2 months ago... she's due to try again in about 4. The other one I see much more often because I have one class with her, that means that many more times to ignore her advances and yet it only seems to intensify her feelings for me. Go figure.

You will act overly super romantic and lovey dovey on the phone, email.

You will never ask her out. You will force her to ask YOU out.

The notion is: If she really fancied you, She'd come to you.

Inflatuation ends....when you discover....that the person you loved, was not HER.
