I've always slept a lot, but its just recently I've started to think I might have a problem, so I'm hoping somebody here knows more about sleeping disorders than I do.

I have trouble waking up unless I really have to. For example, if I have school in the morning I can wake up in time, but if I want to go to the gym in the morning I just can't bring myself to do it.

I also sleep in school. I'm in highschool, and my day is comprised of 7 periods, 2 being study halls, the rest being classes. I generally sleep through both study halls and 3 of my classes. It isn't like the material is too eary and boring for me either, as I sleep through my AP Calculus class daily. I always assumed this was because I only get between 5 and 6 hours of sleep every night, but recently friends with similar sleeping habits tell me that they can't even sleep in class if they try. Also, a teacher of mine suggested that I see a doctor about how much I sleep. I also use 2 alarms on school days to make sure that I wake up on time.

I even sleep through my classes if I get extra (8-10 hours) sleep the night before.

On weekends if I don't set my alarm I get 12-15 hours of sleep. I used to assume this was because of only getting 5-6 hours of sleep on school nights and that my body was trying to make up for it, but last summer I slept a minimum of 10 hours a night and would still sleep through the majority of the day unless I used my alarm.

I remember people saying that you should be able to wake up on time without an alarm clock, but that seems like a ridiculous concept to me.

I'm not sure if I have a problem or if Im just lazy and undisciplined...

I'm sorry about the lengthiness of this post, but I'm trying to be as specific and detailed as possible so that my problem can be better diagnosed.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I believe most "disorders" can be cured at least 75% of the time if you just change the way you think.

* Go to bed at the same time, every night.
* Don't watch TV before bed, this causes stimulation of the brain which leads to less quality sleep. Read a book next to a dim light.
* Don't eat 2 hrs before bed.
* Drink a glass of WARM milk before bed.
* Do you eat healthy? If not, start. Look at my guide to eating for good foods to eat.

Get into a routine and your body will adjust.

Remember that some people just need more sleep. There is something called "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome". It's not life threatening in any way (my sister has it). It just means your body needs to rest more than most. You may want to get checked for that.

I got a sleeping disorder, but my problem is that I cant fall asleep pretty often.

But anyways everybody says u need like 8 hours sleep a day....u cant generalize that though..I did a lotta research on sleepin disorders and doctors say some ppl need only 6 hours of sleep a day or so others might indeed need 12 or so.

Actually Im pretty much the same as u tho...If I have class or whateva and DO have to get up its not a problem at all (but actually I usually dont sleep during classes or anything..), but during summerbreak or holidays or whateva( right now I just work some lil jobs before i enter college) I sometimes just cant get myself to get up...Sometimes I set my alarm clock so I can get like 8 or 9 hours of sleep but reset the alarm clock and everything
and when I finally manage to get up its like another 3 or 4 hours later lol....I dont really think its lazyness....it is a lack of discipline in some way but I dont think tis the same as lazyness cause Im really dedicated if I have a goal or something.....
LL Cool J wrote somethign in his book about him sleepin waaaaaay longer than other ppl and he never realized why but he just couldnt be awake and sometimes even missed important appointements or something.

(this first paragraph is stuff I learned in a survey of psycology class)

Your body needs 8 hours of sleep a night, everynight. If you aren't getting that much sleep then your body has a sleep defecit. Say you are sleeping 6 hours a night 5 days a week, then it makes sense you will sleep 12 on the weekends (5 nights on the weekdays times 2 hours is 10 hours. 12 hour nights on the weekends you get your 8 plus an additional 4, making 8 towards the defecit hours.) So if you sleep in 12 to 15 hours on the weekends it is just because that is how your body is designed. That part of your sleeping is the opposite of a disorder. It is completely normal.

As for sleeping during class, that makes sense too. You didn't sleep enough the night before (like some other guys said, not EVERYONE is the same with needing 8 hours. You might need more. I know I do.) You show up, class is nice and warm. Sometimes you just can't stay awake. That's normal too. I was like that when I was younger, and still A little bit today.

Hell, the 2 days ago I was at work (I load luggage into the bellies of airplanes) and I was dozing off in the bin of a 757. I had just moved 200 bags out of it, had 10 minutes to rest, and I almost fell asleep. It sucks, I can empathize with you.
