How do you guys handle a situation when another guy doesn't break eye contact with you?

Most of the time when I am walking around if anyone makes eye contact with me I hold it till they break it. Girls are no problem, I get eye contact and hold it till I smile and say hi or finally walk past them.

What do you do in a situation where a guy just won't break eye contact first? It becomes really wierd like two kids in a staring contest and I usually hold eye contact to a certain point and then I break it because its been 5 seconds or more already and I am not gonna gaze at some guy all day.

Any thoughts?

Eye contact is a way to display dominance. Usually when guys are staring at me its because they are jealous. They see me walking pimp styled or driving in my ride, just mean mugging.

Yesterday i was walking through the mall on my way to work. I notice this dude with his friend walking towards me. he is looking at me, i look at him and continue looking forward. As we pass i see him still looking at me, i just give him a cold stare and then just look past him.

I dont have time to be looking at guys all day. If i were you just make eye contact and move along. If they dont break contact it can be seen as a challenge, you can accept it and continue to look at him which may escalate into an altercation. orjust forget about it and look past the bastard.

I prefer the ladder.

Yeah chester, but part of that comes from establishing dominance over the other guys too. Not like bullying, but through behavior and attitude.

I just wanted some feedback on how other people handle the situation.

If some nut I have never seen before (and probably will never see again) tries some male dominance crap like that on me for the hell of it, I wouldn't even waste my time. The majority of them are just insecure pissants trying to pick fights and I have nothing to prove to sociopaths.

If it's that important to you, try this:
Say "Hi, what's up?" to him. (Like you would talk to a girl)
I think you shouldn't smile at him, but you can try it.
Warning: two bad things can happen when you do this:
1. You can get beaten up.
2. People might think you're gay.


So don't complain to me, you've been warned.

funny story about this. I was at the gym this weekend with my gf for some swimming/hot tub/steam rooming and there was this guy there who wouldn't stop staring. Me and my gf were in the pool, not really anyone around and she was grinding on me under the water, I caught this guy watching this underwater with his goggles on and I was starting to get pissed. My gf made me promise i wouldn't start anything, so we went inside to go sit in the steam room. This kid walks in there and keeps staring, at this point I am getting very irritated. We leave the steam room and are outside of it towling off. He walks out of the steam room and stares directly at me I gave him the "what the fvck are you staring at?". He responds "its hot in there" in a slightly handicapped voice, turns out this kid is retarded. If you ever want to make your self feel low, give some attitude to a handicapped person, eh - i still laughed about it though.

I usually tend to say Hi nonverbally keeping a cool face. I do this by first locking in eye contact, that was already assumed from your post, and then shaking my head from up to down slowly ONCE. If you shake your head the other way, that is from down up, as if to say "Hey" it is usually an overpowering response, if the person yo're doing it to is not your friend. Be careful with this one.

Give a slow nod going DOWNWARD while maintaining eye contact. Now you've acknowledged you're both noticing each other not looking away and you're diffusing the tension through the acknowledgement. And neither of you is seen as "weak". Likely, he'll nod right back at you or say "sup" or something similar.

I do this all the time when seeing a guy who also maintains eye contact. I even walk through small crowds of thuggish bastards and do it (though you shouldn't be anywhere near thugs if you can help it). I stand up straight, maintain eye contact, give one downward nod and say a small "sup". Usually they do the same and I keep walking with no problems. In fact, if you have to walk through them, you SHOULD do what I and Legolas have said. Don't act threatening and for gods sake, don't look down or away. Otherwise your ass is fresh meat.
