My room mate this semester is gay

I just spoke to my room mate on the phone. We live pretty close and he called to say "His significant other was taking him(the room mate) out to a place near me and he wanted to meet me too."

I took a Xanax and I'm calm now...

Is it possible for a straight guy to live with a gay guy? I don't really care about his life style. Its definitely not my thing, but he can do whatever makes him happy. I plan on changing rooms, but...do you think I could use this to my advantage? There are two, richy all women's colleges in town. His best friend goes to one and he knows a lot of girls there. Could I use "him" as a pivot?

This sh** only happens to me.

The only concern I have is him staring at me when I'm asleep. I'm a good looking guy...

Now that I think of it. Gays group together for safety, and would probably hang out in my room a lot.

Screw it. I'm changing rooms.

He could have a lot of HB friends. If you're that homophobic, move. But if you draw the lines upfront (tell him you're hetro, worried about crowds of gays there all the time) he should be cool about it. You can talk to the guy easier than to a DJ cos he's likely more feminine and Nicer!

Agreed that the gay guy could be a good person to look to as sort of a guy who can get behind the scenes of women easier since women are not as alerted with a gay guy since he definitely has no ulterior motives (i.e. sex on his mind).

However, it can be a problem if you're rooming with him since people might start assuming you're gay too. I know, a wrong assumption, but not everything in this world is fine and dandy.

its every girls dream to have a gay guy friend (only god knows why), you could honestly meet a ton of HB with this roomy. However, ever think of the possibility of everyone thinking you are gay, if you are seen hanging out with him and his "partners"? People tend to lump each other into groups, that might not be the best group to get lumped in with.

Is he a flamer ( acts real prissy)? If so, it could get annoying. If not, I would use his contacts to your advantage. I have a couple of gay friends that don't necessarilly act gay. No big deal.

there was this weird looking gay kid at my college this last year, and I could kid you not, there was not a time he was not with a blazing ass girl. usually it was 2 or 3. I spoke to his straight roommate and he *loved* it. they got along well, and the gay kid was the hot chick magnet

Dude are you Nuts? LIVE WITH THIS GUY. That has got to be the perfect roomate to have. he is probably clean, neat and orderly, but the most important thing is this - HE WONT COC K BLOCK YOU OR GET IN YOUR WAY WHEN IT COMES TO CHIKS. Ask anyone here thats been away at college and they will tell you that dealing with an AFC roomate(and there all AFC's) is a downright pain in the butt. Always gettin in the way, hatin, trying coc k block you, etc. If anhything, i would rather have a gay roomy than some random straight boy, with the likely hood that he'll be an annoying AFC near 100 percent.

I was in the same situation with you when I first went to college. I was assigned to room with a flaming gay guy.

At first I was apprehensive, being a sheltered middle class suburbanite with little exposure to such a lifestyle.

However, over time his sexual orientation became a non-issue. He was a good guy, became a friend of mine that I respect, and was overall a roommate to be thankful for. Very courteous, respectful of my space and property, etc.

Don't worry about it. He's a person just like you and if you go into the year with an open mind, just might get to like the guy as a friend.

Oh yeah...and he most definitely will have hot girl friends. A definite plus!

hot babes love gay guys. Because the babes know they wont be hit on and can count on him as a friend. I would keep him around. Just clarify the rules. I had lots of gay friends with lots of hb hook ups. Just say look dude dont hit on me and dont have ur bf's hit on me either. If you are going to been slapping hams with your bf just give me a notice or something cuz you wouldnt want to walk in on that stuff.

Also, remember that he's only your roommate... it's not like you two have been assigned to be best friends or anything... If you have a good friendship with your roommates that's great, but it's not necessary for you to hang out with him constantly. In fact, it's been my experience that if you hang out with your roommate TOO MUCH you guys could drive each other crazy (gay, straight, or otherwise). It is important for you guys to get along though, so try not to act homophobic... Just like you don't want EVERY girl you see... he doesn't want every guy he sees and even if he was attracted to you, if you're straight, you're straight.

Exactly. A lot of straight boys have this myth that some gay dude is gonna jump him/grab him/rape him etc. Trust me, thats not gonna happen. If anything, your gay roomy is probably very passive and non-violent ( 99 percent of gays usually are) and unlikely to fight anyone nonetheless rape someone

well at NYU just about everyone's got a gay roommate. My friend had a gay roommate, who was also a nerd that hated the really effeminate gay guys at school. That was the best of both worlds: not only did he attract hot chicks, but hot chicks that played video games and watched the same movies as us

Agreed. I have had a few gay guys "hint" to me, but they didn't push it when I "hinted" back that I wasn't interested. Now I'm friends with one and on good terms with another (the other two approached me at the gym -- what's with the gym and gay guys??). And both of them are often seen with girls.

Personally, I think being gay is a sexual disorder, but aside from that, I don't find anything wrong with the ones I've met.

I feel ya. Unfortunately people will be wondering about you also. It's too bad that is the way it is in society. I've had a similar situation happen to me once. I felt uncomfortable changing near that person. I told him "I better not come home and there is gay sex going on, or someone will need to call the cops"

I quickly got out of that living situation and found it peaceful. I don't care about what people said about me being homophobic (gays word for strongly not liking their lifestyle). I've been called worse.

I'm old fashioned (dinosaure..another gay or gay sympathizer word). To me a man should be a man. It feel wierd to be hit on by other men...it happened once. I didnt' hit the dude, I just smiled and explained to him I'm straight but thank you anyway.
