Unfortunately, you can't invite your ex over for dinner every night.

Your value was raised in your gf's eyes, and she realized you have other options. You can keep that going without your ex around, but the longer you're in a relationship, the less that's possible. It's human nature to take anything for granted if it's around long enough.
