how do you get the V shape?

It comes from having a relatively large chest compared to waist size, ie, good back and chest development, and little fat around the midsection. But if you are only doing upperbody workouts you are shortchanging yourself so don't neglect legs, please. Decide if you need to bulk up or cut and then see Diesel's guides for each.

You need to work your LATS real hard to get that V shape, and have a small waist.

Small waist, big lats and shoulders. Just keep training and dieting hard and it will come.

Ya for some reason its really easy for me to get that V shape. I am not a big guy, but its just real easy.


I suggest doing close grip pullups and also widegrip pullups.

I have the V shape completely and I credit years of swimming. I also have a fast metabolism so it's easy for me to maintain.

I agree with newbie...the V Taper you describe can be obtained by having broad/wide shoulders, sweeping lats, and a small waist.

ok, so most of you say that one should have broad shoulders and a small waist. well how do you determine that? should i measure myself?

You don't really have to. Just get on a cutting diet and concentrate on lowering your bodyfat. Don't forget to train all your other bodyparts though.

I swim (freestyle) about a mile 3 times a week. It has done wonders for my back,shoulders, lats.
