Although undoubtedly I'll get slagged for posting geeky observations on a site for Don Juans, I think this movie is a shining example of the message you read in books like "Psycho-cybernetics".

The programmers of the Matrix know their false world will be accepted by those trapped in it, because everybody behaves in a pre-determined manner, according to human nature and how "society" has conditioned us to see ourselves... and our role in the grand scheme of things.

Neo is confronted with choices, and the decisions he makes are all critical to the functioning of the Matrix. The machines create these situations in such a way that he will always choose the path that benefits them (as the oracle said "We already know what you're going to do, don't we?")

However Neo is somebody who has opened his eyes to the real possibility of freedom - he doesn't accept that he must always react the same way.

Don't feel that you can't step outside the rules of how you're expected to behave. Go for real freedom.
