In the near future, I'm going on a two-week trip to Ireland. I'd like DJ advice on:

- pubs

- being an America, now that 71% of Europeans consider us the greatest threat to world peace (and if you don't think this'll be a problem, I got hard looks from more than one Spanish girl last summer, one I said where I was from)

- any subjects I ought to avoid, or focus on, with those red-haired green-eyed Irish lassies

Um...you need more than 2 weeks.

Ireland

I've always wanted to visit Ireland since I can remember. Relatives of mine who have visited there never wanted to leave.

Anyway, the only thing you should be wary of is probably the Catholic/Protestant thing; stay clear of Northern Ireland (or "North of Ireland" depending on whom you're talking to, just like "Derry" and "Londonderry", etc.). I'm Catholic so I'd stay south (which works out anyway since I've got family in the south). Then again, I've heard from some people who have visited recently that there's really nothing to be worried about. In reality, you'd probably have a peaceful trip no matter where you go in Ireland.

The blood of every Irishman flows with politics, so just start talking about Charles Parnell, "the Troubles", and William of Orange / 1690 if you really want to get something going. Politics is too "heavy" a topic for seduction, sure, but you could use this stuff if you want some deep discussion in pubs.

There's a few Irish DJs on this board, so I hope that they see this bump... I'm interested, too. And I hope that they correct me if I'm wrong.

and they are about to ban smoking in bars and restaurants.
Wondering if that will renuin the atmosphere there?

oh, I forgot to mention that I'll be in Dublin the whole time.

Not trying to offend or anything but go to London, Strafford U Avon, anywhere in Scotland or Ireland and you can spot them or here them a mile off.

You forgot to mention Oliver Cromwell. The most Hated "Englishman" to this day in Ireland. However, that may be a sore subject.
