Has anyone ever been contacted by a woman they didn't know on LinkedIn to connect?

I received a connection from a woman who worked at the same company I did. However, we didn't work at the company at the same time. Looking at her photo, I knew I never met her. She's a very memorable looking woman. So, I thought maybe she's networking. What harm can a connection on LinkedIn do?

I forgot about it and almost two months later, she's asking me about my reading list on LinkedIn. We chat a little and clearly she likes me and is interested. She even said she liked my LinkedIn photo.

Are women looking for men on LinkedIn? I guess it's instant social proof, the woman can look for guys who know some of her connections. The woman knows the guy had to go through a background check and drug screen, the same she had to for the company. She also knows the the guy is a stable earner having access to his career info. Is this normal for women these days? In my wildest dreams, I never thought of a women using LinkedIn to try and get to know me.

On a side note, and I'm not making this up, apparently before she had a "corporate job", when she was younger she did part-time swim suite and lingerie modeling (not the mainstream boring catalog, the sexy catalog).

I just never thought of LinkedIn as a place where you're minding your own business and a former part-time model starts making online moves on you. It's a strange world indeed.

And yes I am married and shouldn't be chatting with her. But a former part-time model, I'm afraid curiosity is getting the better of me. 5String is going to so chew me out.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

LinkedIn is not a dating tool. Everyday, I connect with people who've never met me. It doesn't mean I'm attracted to them. I do this to spread my network, so more people can see my portfolio, and so more recruiters can stumble upon me for more jobs.

Dating sites....even Facebook, I can understand. LinkedIn, man....can we just leave that for its intended purpose.

I'm the same with Mantis. I have over 80 clients i manage. Each client has at least 1+ main point of contact (MPOC). Then i have other people i meet at my clients firm that i build with relationships and i essentially i have hundreds of people I'm connected to on linked in. I'm a bit younger than you, 25. I'm not that established. Maybe if i was 42, had a nice title on linked in and also had a good head on my shoulders i can see creepy single spinsters trying to hit on me. Generally its for recruiters and networking/relationship mapping. Women like her will be the downfall of linked in as i can totally see women use linked in to find sugar daddy's........

Next thing you're going to tell me is that the supermarket is for buying food, not for flirting with the local hotties.

I say embrace alternative uses. In this case, she saw you, got interested and did what comes natural. Can't see it being a good tool for men, but for women it could be decent.

Great point to the obvious. Streets are meant for walking. Does that mean that all women are taboo whilst they travel on them?
