Since moving to LA I've been faced with more instances of flaky behavior (from both guys and girls) than ever before in my life. And there's usually no excuse for it either, implying this is acceptable behavior around here. Well, instead of b.itching about it, I decided to try an approach that worked wonders for me in the past.
Whenever I make plans with a girl, I always also make a backup plan. My favorite backup, of course, is to make plans with another girl! If I am pretty sure that both girls will show up, I just stagger the dates by 2-3 hours, then during the first date I gauge the IL. If it is high enough and I think I can go for an f-close that day, I simply cancel the second date. More often than not, one of the two girls will mysteriously fall through, making it easy on me...
Another backup plan you can have is with friends, especially if they understand the situation and don't get pissy about you telling them you'll try to show up, depending on circumstances.
The irony of it all though is that, of course, you become seen as a more flaky person yourself, either by the girl you happen to ditch that night or your friends. But from the look of things, that's normal in LA!
