Discretion is the better part of valor. You don't embark upon impossible quests/impossible relationships, potentially hurting yourself and other people emotionally, in a vain attempt to prove something to yourself.
I find it comical that most people don't understand WHY gays want to get married. It's largely for the tax benefits and other legal issues such as rights of survivorship and power of attorney.
Meanwhile, all of these straight people think it's about emotional commitment.

In all truth, gay people are more likely to get married for the RIGHT reasons; because they're already social pariahs for their decision to be openly homosexual, marriage isn't some vain attempt to prove their desirability as a mate, as it is with a sadly large number of straight men and women.
