In HS baseball, our coach made us run the field AFTER the game if we got a strike three looking and didn't attempt to swing at the ball. He tallied how many times you did it per game and had to do that many laps around the field after the game and the next 2 practices.

The point of the idea was that sometimes you'll get hits you don't expect or you'll make contact, hit a foul ball, extend the at bat, wear down the pitchers arm, and eventually get a hit, a walk, or even a homerun.

We won 2 state titles and 3-peated as American Legion champs.

Apply this analogy to approaching. When I see a chick, the 3 second rule applies. It's like a pitch, I need to go and swing asap. Baseball is very much a game of instinct. The human eye isn't good enough to accurately track the ball from the mound to plate. Nonetheless, instinct knows where its going. The more you practice, the better you are. If you don't practice batting, you won't even be able to hit a fastball down the middle consistently, nevermind a change-up or curve. Practice letting your gut lead the way and perfect your swing.
