Just thought I would share the link to this funny thread on enotale concerning the eternal debate: Nice guys vs. Jerks.

http://www.enotalone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=353703

It´s like coming back to a country where you used to live but now feels like a different planet. Even though there are some guys there that look like they are beggining to see the light.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Quote taken from The SoSuave Guide to Women and Dating, which you can read for FREE.

Only read the first page, and I don't see the problem? The OP is a bit confused, but everybody is giving sound advice, no?
Their definition of "nice guy" might be a bit off, but I would agree with most of their answers.

It´s further down, when you get the guys who complaint and are really bitter about the way things work in the real world, and refuse to think differently, even though there is some sound advice.
