What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I've never been married, but I read that passion almost always dwindles after a few years.

http://www.reuniting.info/science/sex_in_the_brain <That article might help explain why.

I'm sure they've stopped trying to "attract" one another, and failed at keeping the passion alive, so of course one of them is going to get lonely.

Love shouldn't be about keeping someone from what they want to do. She's surely a good friend of his after 15 years; he should be able to set his ego aside, talk about their desires, and remain friends, even after her lies (which are good intentioned, although very disrespectful.) Getting married isn't for life anymore, and doesn't entitle anyone to get unromantic and lazy. It's a ****ty situation, but she's lost attraction to him for a reason (which is discussed in that article.)

It would be best if he could reignite the spark in their marriage and get her interested in him again, but if not, he should open up the relationship or get a divorce.
