Read some books like the for dummies series and saw a couple of youtube vids but looks like alot of paperwork.Is is as simple as buying tuna in the us and shipping it to japan where tuna is very rare what about transportation?

Import/Export for dummies was pretty good from what I know u can start for less then 15,000 grand.Checkout www.globalservicesworldwide.com .Checking iut some youtube clips on the field but have not found anything yet.Any suggestions.

Hmm....sorry to rain on the party but that website doesn't quite pass the smell test for me. Look at some of the "organizations" that the group is in. They are a member of ICANN, which all that means is that they have a registered domain name...why is that something to brag about?

Import/Export is usually handled by banks. How it works for those that don't know is that a bank, or some other institution, acts as an intermediary in a transaction. Say a US company is trying to buy something from a Japanese company. The US company doesn't want to hand over it's money and never get any goods in return, and the Japanese company doesn't want to ship the goods but never receive payment. You can't just call the police if someone rips you off since it is over different jurisdictions. So, a mutually trusted institution like an international bank holds the payment and goods in escrow until both have been received, and then forward them both to the ultimate destination.

It's not always banks that act as the intermediary, and sometimes countries have a government agency that can do it, like in the United States: http://www.exim.gov/

Okay I looked at the "Import/Export business" article on Entrepreneur, and frankly, I'd call that an exotic retail business rather than import/export, or at least import/export as how most business schools define it.

Now you can probably make good money in selling exotic goods, but know what you're getting into and do your homework.
