alright so i just interviewed for a medium sized company for a management position. The company is very family oriented and close. I did really well during the interview and related well since my family has a lot of business's. The hiring manager and I related on many topics of growing up and the similarities between how our mindsets are.

I was wondering since it is a smaller company and they like to keep everything close, would a follow up call/message thanking her and the other manager directly over the phone/voicemail as well as an additional email or would it be better to just be normal and send an email?

The decision will be made on wednesday so i might give them a call later depending..

I worked at a business where the boss had some of his family members there. It made me want to puke. The Boss gets a brand new beamer, so he gives his 2-year-old Toyota to his kid, who is making a 5hitload more money than those who have been at the company longer.

Then his little brother gets to work at the company during summer holidays when school is out. He sits there playing video games and watching Youtube. But when a regular employee is looking at stuff on the net, the boss comes by and tells him to get to work.

Thank god I now work for a company that has an unspoken no-family policy.

But yeah, do whatever feels comfortable for you. If you got along with him really well and developed some good rapport, then call him. If it was strictly business, just send an email. If you decide that family-oriented businesses are unfair 5hit operations, send nothing.

On what Desdinova said, yeah, nepotism is a b*tch.

I've worked for one family run company and it worked really well but pretty much as a rule I will never work for a family run company.


Anyway, on your question.
I'd recommend a hand written thank you card. You should make it a habit of having it fillled out BEFORE you interview so you can drop it in a mailbox immediately afterward.

I've never emailed a thank you because, in my opinion, any lazy schmoe can email and it does nothing to set you apart.

As far as calling? I don't know. I'd rather not have every person I interview call me. But everybody is different.

Once I got a job based solely on the fact that I mailed a thank you card. The boss TOLD me this when he called me back, It impressed him so much that he hired me.

Forget the e-mail, listen to Teflon McGee & have it filled out, stamped & ready to mail when you walk out of the building.

the decision was supposedly made today. i didn't mail because by the time it would have been received the hiring process would have been over. I sent an email instead.

I recently read something about someone leaving after a interview went well. He then went to his car and hand wrote a thank you letter and went back in and handed it in. He got the job apparently. I'm thinking about trying that since it is quite unique.
