How can I tell this is protein?

My friend gave me some powder he doesnt use anymore. He said it was protein but when he gave it to me I asked him again and he said he wasnt really sure, he didnt read the bottle and threw it away.

It has a tropical flavor....how can I make sure this isnt a carb shake or weight gain? I might be paranoid...:crazy:

I wouldnt take it, just go buy ya some its pretty cheap for about a months supply. I payed around 15 dollers a month when i used to take it.

If you have access to chemicals, you can use benedict's solution on a small sample to make sure there aren't any (simple) carbs.

Similarly, you can use the Buiret test to see if there are proteins (the solution will change to purple if I recall).

But as the previous poster said, best just to get new powder - chances are it'll cost you less and it'll be safer.
