Not sure if anyone would agree to the lyrics to this song. Thought I share it because I find it really beautiful and to have us think about what’s really going on in the mind of a woman. Or, perhaps someone can give some of their insights.
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned
A lot of us meet women with our own assumptions about who they are. Reason we fail time and time again in new relationships is because we won’t accept the woman for simply who she is and that’s a clean slate. Instead, we go into relationships with our own presumptions about how our exes and past behaviors of our exes carry forward to someone else. If not, we have high expectations of the next girl to fulfill a role that is so hard to fill.
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Look past who she is and see someone who’s different, a blank page. Uncloud your mind and accept her for who she is, not in who we defined her to be.
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your innovations
Live in the moment, don’t plan so far ahead. Quit making judgment of how things are going to be, let go of outcome.
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
Here’s the kicker! We don’t know what’s going to happen next. Only you can love yourself, no one else can feel it for you. No one can do it for you. Only you can let love in. She’s not going to make you feel love if you don’t love yourself. Live your life with an open mind and let love in. At most she can amplify the feeling. You can’t go in with an empty cup hoping she can fill it for you.
I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way
We are so afraid of failing, we are so afraid of being hurt. She’s trying to tell you to not be afraid. So what if you make mistakes? Make mistakes, embrace mistakes, that’s where you succeed.
The rest is still unwritten
Nothing is written yet. Make a new story with her. So what if you fail?
