I can honestly say most of my friends are from my old days as a club DJ (disc jockey). They are all around late 20s and seem to be refusing to grow up. Most of my friends my age are married with kids and live out of town. Do you find it harder to make friends at a more mature age?

I think that, as I've entered my 30's, my need for friendship has diminished significantly. I have fewer friends than I once did, but they are closer and better friends.

My focus, for the last 5 or 6 years, has been intently on my career, and that has also resulted in some atrophy of personal relationships. But I'm at a point where I feel I can come up for air a bit, so to speak, and will probably invest some time in restoring some of my friendships, as well as building new ones.

It's extremely difficult for me to make friends. People I'm "friendly" with are married or have girlfriends/boyfriends.

My outlook on friends changed when I took a college class at a town 30 miles from home. The feeling of not being known, nobody caring about you, doing whatever you want after all less fear of being ashamed when there ain't nobody that you could worry knowing what you're up to. My DJ game improved greatly and I realized this was what I needed, to be an unknown, a stranger who had nothing left to lose. I moved recently to another state and now I got that feeling once again. At first I wanted to make friends, go out to places where people hang out. Then I asked myself if I really needed to make friends here. I can do what I want, nobody is watching me, no expectations of me by nobody. I can now take my game to the next level.

I am sacrificing making friends in my new town for working on my game. Maybe this approach might be a little unorthodox (and unhealthy) but in reality if you were approaching would you be less ashamed of approaching knowing there might be somebody that knows you rather than being in a place full of strangers?

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Wow that's kind of making me think about moving.
