There was a thread here not long ago about dressing and how it impacts things. Well, I inadvertently ended up doing the same experiment myself. A while back I was interviewing for an internship. Typically I dress very normal - jeans, tshirt, decent shoes, and a watch. On this particular day I whipped out my nicest pants, white shirt, a ballin' red tie, and some Kenneth Cole black leather dress shoes I had for work/church/interviews that I found time to polish before the interview.
So I get out of my car and as I'm walking to this place I notice people looking at me. I mean, I'm 23 and there are professional women that look to be 27-30+ who were doing double takes ... and all because I dressed well.
Even better, I went to sign up for a pass at Golds' Gym afterwards since it was on the way home. Last time I signed up for a gym pass I came in workout attire and got the standard treatment.
This time I came in my interview clothes and waddayaknow ... everyone is all gathering around and cheerful, the girls at the front desk are eyeing me up, and one of the guys there who wasn't even helping me asks me "where do you work".
Good stuff.
Now I just need some more money so I can buy better clothes ...
