I believe it was FDA, RT, or STR8UP who posted about this show and I got sucked in, trying to see which route he'd go and why.
Here's some observations:
1) It almost seemed like a setup from the get-go. The 48 year old woman who lasted to the end was PERFECT. Ambitious, Attentive, Cultured, Caring, Feminine, Sexy, Womanly...And Motherly. The guy here (Forgot his name) is 30. And while she has all the traits any of us could want, and more, after watching her for a period of time, I couldn't get some of the garbage out of my head...
Here's a guy who's STARTING his life, and she's already HAD her life, and kids. She's basically USED, even if her body appears flawless. It's evident she's not 25, like the winning girl, but nor did she look 48 either. The 30-48 combo would last a few months or years, and then be done, b/c at 35, she'd be 53, and we're not talking DEMI MOORE and ASHTON, we're talking almost 20 years. When he's 50, she's 68. She won't look that good and it's obvious there'd be cultural differences.
2) Although she blended in with his family, which was the last "challenge", and the 48 year old had the best dates of all the girls, she was still "motherly." She talked down to the 25 year old about life experience and assumed what "kind of man" the bachelor was. Her age would eventually factor in, b/c 18 years of living, when roles are reversed would be more of a problem for a guy who has his life together. If this dude was in need of a mothering type, then maybe it would work, but he wasn't. He was 30, seemed to know his stuff, a bit bland in the personality department, but didn't need a mother.
She dominated the conversation, and was older than everyone except his mother, who I'm sure she was very close to in age. On the show, that's ok. When dating, it wouldn't be. How could your wife/gf blend in? And would she try to mother you, or would she be lead? I doubt a woman like this lady could be lead anywhere. She'd need a 50 year celebrity to guide her and offer even more experience, wisdom, and confidence, not some 30 year old who really hasn't started. And if she thought the 25 year old was young as a girl, a 30 year old man isn't much old, so she must have thought similarly about him as well.
3) It appeared as if they were trying to sell America on picking up all the older women who were desperate and in need of men. Her last words to him, whispered in his ear, were about the multitude of orgasms she was capable of having -- she commented about having 3-4 in a row. First and foremost...that's a turnoff, not turn on, because you IMAGINE she's banging someone, not masturbating, which leads you down the rabbit hole of thought that she's OLD, and USED, and EXPERIENCED. In most cases, men want a dirty, kinky, virgin, not a used nympho who's way over experienced.
4) Reality TV sucks. They never REALLY show the person's true side. The dude here was totally for the 25 year old Amanda --cheerleading type -- but you were made to think she was boring, shy quiet, demure, and generally uninteresting, yet he picked her. Even the dudes mother liked the young girl more over the older woman because she said "she's more like me, I'm shy." I think that sealed the deal, but he played it out for TV.
5) When you're young, you want to experience NEW stuff, not rehash OLD stuff. The 48 year old woman is not likely to have kids, if she can, even though her body is banging. And when you look at her, you don't see a future, you see a woman who's been through stuff. When you see a new, young girl, you see potential, and new opportunities. Also, you see a woman who hasn't had kids, so her body is still "yours" in the sense of kids. Some other dude preggoed the 48 year old, so you're really playing sloppy 3rds, behind her losing her virginity and her having kids. She was something of a catch, the older woman, but for a guy who's divorced, has money, and is much more successful than she is. I imagine the 30 year doesn't want to be motivated or controlled, which is also the vibe I got from the older woman.
Now...if the show was in reverse...48 y.o guy, 30 y.o, it would be done on the first episode. But it wasn't.
The last part with ALL these shows is...it sets WICKED unreasonable expectations and images of relationships in general. Two or more people come together under near perfect conditions, and then TV scripts and shows what they WANT you to see, not what is really going on. And since we're seeing a GLUT of shows like this, females are only going to become even more indoctrinated into this stupid culture. I've watched it to dissect the BS and see where girls even come up with the crap they do, and it amazes me. Alot of the responses I hear are as if these situations are real, just like real world on MTV.
MTV is near worse, b/c they's the 1st playground of fake crap reality TV. When you See RW now, it's a carbon copy of previous ones, and even the very old, original cast members notice it. Everyone PLAYS up their situations, their drama, their tears, to the point its almost total acting. Nobody is really THAT phased, THAT full of drama and issues, unless they're picking the dregs of society, and putting them together. This season is played by 4 very hot chicks, and 3 dudes who are so chill its ridiculous. It almost plays more like a college dorm room or fraternity. They're boring, shallow characters. 2 blonds, 2 brunettes, 1 jacked guy, 1 guy who plays the criminal, and 1 hick who is supposed to be ignorant and the balancing force in the house. It's almost as if they coax the women to bang the men to create issues, drama, conflicts, and ratings. The hot chick, who appears to be porn ready, is going for mr criminal, who is more like a psycho in looks and attitude, than a cast member -- he's admitted to breaking into many homes in his neighborhood on his recruiting video.
People can bemoan the idea these are conspiracy theories, but when everything on TV, media, and even radio/internet is about reality tv, drama, and has the same thing...the similarities are TOO obvious to be anything but...
