Sometimes you may lack the discipline to do what you know is right. For instance, you know it's probably dumb to instantly respond to IMs and Text Msgs, but you're bored and want to. You feel it's rude to "play games" on the phone, so you return calls and answer calls ASAP. In short, you're a nice guy that knows some of these nice guy things are counterproductive, but your background sense of honor and good manners and indiscipline prevent you from doing the right thing.

There is an easy solution: make it impossible to make mistakes. Leave your phone at home. Do not log into your myspace account. Set up plans with friends and don't tell anyone and leave the phone where you can't get to it. Don't do this for days on end, but just do it some of the time. Your stock will improve. Your results will improve. And you will have avoided the temptation to do what you know in moments of cool-headed rationality is unwise.

I agree with you. We live in a world today where everyone is too available. When I was younger things were different. When I went out, it meant I was out. If someone called me, they would need to wait until I got home to return their call. Usually I leave my cell phone in my car when I go places. Or sometimes I turn the ringer off. Nothing so important that it can't wait.

I'm not a big fan of IM. I have a handful of people that are on Messenger and that's even too much. I don't like the fact that it can be so easy to be interrupted and get caught in a conversation every time I sit at my computer. Personally, I never give girlfriends my IM contact info. I don't even mention that I use it.

Nice post, but I don't think it's a wake up call, I think it just shows THE overall problem on this site.

That's right, everybody doesn't have shyt to do. If you knew the shyt I knew, you would see there's way too much shyt TO DO! I really seriously don't understand when a guy says I'm bored, I just don't get that.

There's way too many opportunities to make money.
There's way too many girls in town you HAVEN'T met yet.
There's way too much information you have to read for your Self Improvement.
There's way too much information you have to read for your SPIRITUAL self.

Man....lol. Guys might need a tip or a technique for other things, but a tip for staying busy? That just shows the overall lack of motivation of guys on this site, that's all. No motivation, no fire.
